It was pure bliss, everything about Brysen and I made sense. We spent almost every lasting second of the road trip together and never parted, only when one of us needed to go to the toilet. The nights when we relaxed around a fire was the best, Jocelyn would pull out her guitar and play whilst Dimitri and Dylan sang for us. Sometimes we'd gather a small crowd of other people camping around us. We were the most unlikely sight, the public would think a bunch of road tripping teenagers would be out getting drunk and smashed at every possible moment. Not us.

Most nights we hung around the camp sites we begun staying at, sometimes we'd go out for dinner. One night we even went to another bonfire, this time no alcohol was involved, at least not on my behalf.

We were drawing to the end of our trip, only just over a week more to go, and no one seemed happy about it.

"I can't believe it's almost been eight weeks." Monique groaned, the glow of the fire reflecting off her makeup free face. Over time she'd worn less and less, I preferred her without it. I hummed in agreement, leaning into Brysen, closing my eyes and soaking in the warmth of the fire.

"What are we going to do with ourselves when we get back home?" Sarah asked, pulling blades of grass out of the rich soil.

"Start working." Dylan quickly said, which he followed up with a chuckle. "Man, we're no longer school kids."

"Sure we are." Joeclyn said, a grin on her face, "as long as we have each other we are. Aren't we?" She turned to look at me and I smiled sadly at her.

"I sure hope so." I whispered, Brysen seemed to be the only one to have heard me, as his grip tightened.

"I think it's about time we all just grow up." Brysen stated, his muscles tensing as everyone turned to look at him.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Sarah asked, never had I heard her speak so much in a group conversation.

"What I mean is we all have duties to go home to, every single one of us." I looked to Dimitri, he slowly nodded and looked down at his hands.

"Give us a second." I whispered to Brysen before standing up and pulling Dimitri away with me.

I waited till we were a fair distance from everyone before sitting Dimitri down on the playground set that was abandoned at the ungodly hour we were up.

"I'm not ready to go home yet." Dimitri said once he sat down. It had become an often occurring event that Brysen finally understood, Dimitri turned to me for support and someone to talk to. And I was glad that Brysen had seen that I was only just a friend to him.

"You don't have to go home." I said, not sure why I even said that.

"But Hannah is still there." Dimitri sighed and ran his fingers through his hair.

"We can find a way to get her out without having to go there." I offered, looking Dimitri in the eye. I desperately wanted to help, I had already asked my parents about it and they said they'd do their best to help.

"I know we can, but I don't know."

"It's okay Dimitri." I put my hand over his and smiled encouragingly. "We'll get you through this. Had any more though to telling Brysen?" I knew it was a long shot, it was going to be from the start, but I felt like it was the right thing for Dimitri to do. His best friend decided to know about his situation.

"In time." This was new, all the previous times Dimitri had just flat out said no.

"Really?" My eyes widened and I felt like jumping for joy, I was finally getting somewhere with him.

"Yeah." And that was when our conversation ended and we returned to our respective spots. A small smile on my face as Dimitri jumped straight into a cheerful and optimistic conversation with everyone.

Four more nights, that's all there was left of the road trip. We had turned a complete one eighty degree and were now on our final stretch back home. We still had plenty of time, meaning we could spend longer in the mornings at our locations. Brysen and Dimitri had talked a lot, and I was beginning to think that the truth had finally come out, seeing as DImitri no longer came to me for a talk. Seeing as their friendship was building, I begun to focus on mine with Jocelyn. It felt like the old days, we sat somewhere private and just talked. About anything and everything. Jocelyn told me about all the numbers she had scored on the road, and we laughed at some of the ridiculous texts that had been sent to her.

Everything was perfect, well it seemed like it. We were a bunch of teenagers, on the road and just having fun. Our time was coming to the end, and we were all making the most of it. At least that's what I thought everyone was doing.

I watched Jocelyn get in the car with Sarah, I watched as the two of them went through the check they did every time before driving off. Neither deserved what happened

-

I struggled with my seatbelt, panic taking over and making my whole body shake in fear. Brysen was already out of the car, running towards Jocelyn and Sarah's. Eventually I managed to get out of my car, my heart beating faster than ever as I raced to join Brysen and Dimitri.

In my state of panic I fell to the crowd, crying and shaking. Wishing to rewind and save my best friend. I felt Dimitri beside me, his arm holding me tightly. I didn't want him there, I needed Brysen, but so did Jocelyn and Sarah.

I could hear Monique in the distance, calm and collected , talking to emergency services. How wasn't she crying, or at least panicking? I looked up for a brief moment to see Dylan crouching in front of me, he too was comforting me, his back to the scene. Everything blurred and my senses started to drown out, I didn't feel Brysen's arms pick me up and carry me away from the upside down car, nor did I hear the words he kept repeating. My mind was blank and I didn't see a way out.
