I awoke to a chuckle, I hadn't yet opened my eyes as I was still too tired to start functioning. Followed by the chuckle was a soft whisper. "Bexley." I moved slightly, letting the person know that I was awake but didn't want to be disturbed. "Come on Bex, I want you to see this." A hand was rested on my cheek, it was cold but comforting. I opened up one eye at a time to reveal Dimitri leaning over me, the car door wide open to accommodate his long legs. I shifted my ass further up the seat so I could sit up straight without bumping Brysen who I saw was still fast asleep.
Using the support of Dimitri I somehow backed out of the car, leaning into him as I got my shoes on. It was still dark, the sun must've been only moments away from rising. Then it clicked.
"I've seen a sunrise before Dimitri." I whispered, closing the car door after pulling on a jumper to give me more warmth.
"That too, but come on." Unlike Brysen, Dimitri took my hand rather than my wrist. Still half asleep I followed him further away from the road, confused and tired. He led me up a hill and what was on the other side shocked me.
"Woah," I breathed out, looking left to right. All I could see where tree's, loads and loads of trees.
"Saw it earlier when I got up for a walk." He dropped my hand and walked a couple steps down the other side of the hill before sitting on the grass. "It reminds me of the place my mum used to take me, before she left." He pulled out a few blades of grass, letting them fall between his fingers. "I'll never forgive her for leaving, but I don't blame her. My dad made things difficult, and then my sister and I were becoming harder to deal with." I sat down next to Dimitri and took a deep breath.
"It's a nice memory to have." I whispered, thinking back to all the sights I saw in the car back over the hill. "What made you bring me to see this though." I gestured out to the tree's, my voice a little louder than before.
"You're the only one I can talk to about this, and I thought you'd appreciate the sunrise." As he said this the sky started getting lighter, the reddish glow coming from behind the tree's.
"I do, but I don't appreciate the early wake up call."
"And nor do I." I turned around quickly, cracking my neck and my back simultaneously.
"Brysen, why are you awake?" I took in his half asleep state, "or half awake." I added, a smile cracking on my face, Dimitri laughed softly from beside me.
"I could ask you the same thing." Brysen crossed his arms over his chest and stared at me.
"Dimitri just wanted to show me this." I said in defense, trying my best to smile at him.
"How romantic." Brysen said sarcastically, a scowl on his face.
"What's your problem Brysen?" Dimitri spoke up, getting to his feet at the same time. "You should be at Dylan's neck not mine. He's got the girl you want. I stayed away, like you wanted me to." So this was all about Monique. I stood up and took several steps away from the two guys.
"Monique is the least of my worries." Brysen spat, his eyes dark and filled with emotion. "Do you know what space means." He stepped towards Dimitri and looked him in the eyes. It was hard to determine who out of the pair were taller.
"I am giving space. But I'm sorry for not being able to talk to anyone but her." Dimitri raised his arm and pointed at me, I froze and stared at his accusing finger. Brysens eyes followed Dimitri's pointing finger, his eyes meeting mine.
"What's going on?" I asked, taking one more step back, Brysen clenched his jaw and looked away from me.
"Nothing." In the spur of the moment Dimitri reached his hand up and slapped Brysen, and not one of those girly bitch slaps.
"Don't call this nothing, you call anything to do with me nothing, or shit or useless." Brysen didn't react to the slap, but his cheek did as it started turning red. Dimitri looked hurt, whereas Brysen looked furious, I didn't know who was in more fault.
I watched as they yelled back and forth, bringing up issues that I had never heard of, nothing was making sense to me as my name kept being thrown into the equation.
"I don't want anything to do with her in that way." Dimitri spoke harshly as he took me by the arm, he then threw me into Brysen. "There, all yours." In my state of shock I didn't have the energy to say anything to Dimitri as he ran down the hill, towards the trees. Brysens arms wrapped around me, and pulled me to his chest, bringing Dimitri out of view.
"No." I stepped out of his arms and looked over my shoulder to see Dimitri disappear into the thick forest. "He's going to get lost out there, we can't leave him."
"He'll be back before you know it." Brysen tucked a strand of my hair behind my ear, his eyes focused on me.
"What's going on Brysen? You guys have been like this since the first night." My voice shook and I avoided his gaze, feeling vulnerable for my involvement in something I didn't even know about.
"Dimitri keeps getting in the way, that's all."
"Is it? Because he made it clear he knows how to give space, or whatever it is you're demanding from him." I shook my head and walked past Brysen and up the hill. I knew he was following, which is why I kept talking, "and Dimitri has no interest in me, why would you accuse him of such things, and even if he did why would you care? You're still hung up on Monique, I see the way you look at her and Dylan."
"It's not like that." Brysen defended himself, catching up to walk beside me.
"Then tell me what it's like." I begged, spinning to face him. I had never liked so see anyone fight, and especially not Dimitri. After learning about his story it was hard to treat him the same.
"You wouldn't understand, at least not yet."
"Whatever you say Brysen." I stared back at the dense tree's, and the sun already high above the horizon line. "Just figure this out before you ruin everyone else's fun." I gestured to the other cars parked by the ride, "mine's already gone, but you can save theirs." I ran down the rest of the hill and to my car. Suddenly angry rather than confused. I threw things around in an attempt to cleaning the backseat, and with much difficulty I managed to change my top to something suitable.
"I'm sorry Bexley." I sighed and stopped sorting through my bag.
"Don't apologise to me, it's Dimitri you should be saying this to." I leaned against the back rim of the car, crossing my arms over my chest. Brysens' hair was a mess, something I hadn't noticed up on the hill.
"I know, but we've dragged you into our problems." He looked down at his feet, then his hands. "And that's not fair on you."
"You think?"
"Jesus Bexley, you don't need to be like this. I'm trying to apologise here." Brysen was quick to reply, and I noticed he was losing his patience.
"Well you're not doing a great job of it." I tied my hair up and turned back around to continue sorting my bag out. The car bounced as Brysen got up on top of it, offering his hand to me. "I hope you realise this is my car." I said as I grabbed his hand and allowed him to pull me up. With the strength I was flung over the edge and landed half on and half off Brysen. My jacket sliding off my right shoulder.
"Sorry, my bad." Brysen said as he helped me move over to sit beside him, rather than on top of him. He pulled up my jacket for me to cover my shoulder and then proceeded to staring out at the road.
"I'm sorry too, for blowing up at you before." I whispered, before leaning my head on his shoulder. Closing my eyes and enjoying the cold breeze.
