You asked your friend for her help as you walked out of the dressing rooms that were connected to the girls' rooms. She helped you zip up the back of the dress you were wearing. It was silver, and the skirt was a beautiful crimped chiffon. When you twirled, it was like magic.
In a sick way, the colour reminded you of the unicorn blood Slughorn had shown you in potions one day. Tom had seemed extremely intrigued at the benefits you could get from the magic substance. You couldn't imagine killing a unicorn.
You inhaled a sharp breath. You hadn't thought of Tom since he had called you that terrible name and nearly spat at your feet every time he saw you after that. He was troubled.
You blamed his parents, rather the lack of parents, and the horrible treatment that he got from the nuns in the orphanage.
Still, none of his childhood stopped him from being the second-to-the-top student. You, of course, were first.
Quietly, your friend, Nova Lovegood, asked if you wanted her to do your makeup. You nodded and sat on the wooden chair that was scooted in front of the mirror. She put silver and pastel blue eyeshadow on your eyelids and lined them with a cat eye. Then, Nova choose a toned down peach colour and painted it on your lips. She finished with a few victory rolls in your hair and gave you a once over.
"You look gorgeous, (y/n). Callisto is going to pass out at the sight of you." she said, putting her blonde hair in a French twist with some loose strands hanging out. Nova then took some tiny English daisy blooms and stuck them in various spots around her head. Her dress was blue, and covered in off-white lace. She had powdered her pale face, and had white eyeshadow with a thin line of blue eyeliner. Her lips simply had gloss and her cheeks had a rosy tint.
"I just- I'm nervous about Tom." you told her.
"That deadbeat? Oh come on, nargles got your nerves?"
"Nargles? Uh- no. At least I don't think so. But, you know what he called me, Nova. That's unacceptable."
She put a gentle hand on your shoulder, and gave a small, yet reassuring pat. "My brother will take good care of you. Lovegoods always take good care of people anyway. We don't want to look like Blibbering Humdingers, now, do we?"
You simply shook your head. Callisto had just gotten back from fighting in the muggle World War. He was incredibly handsome, especially in the military-style haircut he had. He had begun going simply as Cal, and was allowed to wear his muggle military uniform during school. He was a technical year older than you and Nova, but since he was gone with the war for his seventh year, he had come back to graduate from Hogwarts and go into muggle and half blood protection services. Cal was the exact opposite of Tom.
"You- you never told me who you were going with, Nova."
A crimson blush consumed her cheeks. "Uh- Joseph Longbottom."
Your eyes widened. Joseph was gorgeous. During the first few years at Hogwarts, no one paid him any attention except for Nova, and in turn, you and Cal. He was a Gryffindor, and you knew he had eyes for Nova, so the graduation ball seemed like the perfect thing for the two.
"That's great! I'm happy for you."
Nova turned and looked at you with her blue-green hazel eyes. "You don't like Cal, do you? And- you're still in love with Tom."
"No, no. Cal is a really great guy-"
"It's okay that you don't like him like that. I just don't want you being hurt by Tom."
"I can handle myself, promise."

"And mum wanted us to go to Baeuxbatons! How ridiculous is that?" Cal said, making huge gestures with his calloused hands. He was wearing his fancy uniform from the Navy. He looked like a pin up, but still, your eyes wandered to Tom.
Some girl was draped across him like a cheap curtain. She had bottle blonde hair and green eyes- sadly, you knew who it was. She called herself Lucy, and she was a full blooded Slytherin. She had on a black dress, the top barely covering her knockers. A few of the teachers were keeping a close eye on her.
What you didn't know was that Tom was having a terrible time. He saw you having fun with that deadbeat Cal guy, and it frustrated the living daylights out of him. He wanted you back. You were the most gorgeous girl ever, and he had massively messed up.
He knew he couldn't take it back. He also knew that since he had clearly lost you, he needed to have a real good reason for it.
Hell, he might as well just kill people. It wouldn't change what he did to you, and it probably wouldn't change your opinion on him much, seeing as you ignored him and already hated him as much as you could.
He lost you right before his eyes as Cal twirled you around the room.
Tom knew that before you did.
He wasn't very surprised when he heard two years later that you and Cal we're going to officially tie the knot. He wasn't invited to the wedding, of course, and that hurt him more than he would ever let on. He saw pictures in the newspaper, and you looked more gorgeous then than when he first layed eyes on you, which he didn't think was even possible, but you did.
You and your little mudblood self had moved on, and Tom was still hung up on you. You would always hold a small piece of his heart.
