His ruby red eyes.
His soft white fur.
Sigh.

She turned on her side.

His muscular body.
His cute buck teeth.
Sigh.

She turned to her other side.

That cute, shy smile.
Sigh.

She turned on her back.

His unique voice.
Sigh.

She turned on her belly.

The way he protected her...

ARGH!

Kiwi's eyes flew open, and she climbed out of bed, realizing that sleeping was obviously out of the question right now.
There was no need to keep trying since it would only get frustrating.
Which it already was, really.

With her bathrobe firmly wrapped around her, she walked downstairs, but when she entered the kitchen, her heart nearly stopped.

"MODO!"

The gray-furred giant almost fell off his chair at her sudden scream.

"Jesus, you scared the crap out of me, big fella," Kiwi breathed, clutching her chest.

Modo, recovering from the shock as well, flashed her a warm smile.
"Sorry, Kiwi ma'am. Didn't expect to see you here at this hour."

Kiwi looked at the clock—it was 02:07 am.

"Yeah, well, same here," she muttered, opening the fridge and grabbing the milk before glancing over her shoulder.
"You want some warm milk, big guy?"

Modo looked at her curiously.
"Milk?"

Right.
Alien.

Kiwi shook her head with a smile as she pulled a small pan out of one of the cupboards.
As she turned on the stove and poured the milk, she realized she didn't really know how to explain this without making it sound weird.

"It's... well, it has something to do with cows," she started, but then just waved it off with a grin.
"Anyway, when I can't sleep, I drink warm milk with honey. It's sweet and comforting."

Modo thought about it for a second, then shrugged.
"Okay. Let's give it a try."

After a few minutes, Kiwi put two steaming mugs on the table and shoved one toward Modo, wrapping her hands around hers and watching him as he sniffed at the drink suspiciously.

"It won't kill ya, I promise," she snickered.

Modo looked a little embarrassed and took a careful sip, then his one eye widened in surprise.
"Wow, this is really good!"

"I know, right," Kiwi smiled back at him.

A silence fell between them, and Kiwi glanced at Modo through her lashes while pretending to be focused on her mug.
He looked kind of sad, actually.

"Couldn't sleep?" she asked nonchalantly, or at least she tried to, but as always, that goddamn curiosity of hers was heard in her voice.

Modo shook his head, seemingly unfazed by her curiosity.
"No. Those damn nightmares... Bein' here somehow triggered a trip down memory lane... and it sure ain't a happy one."

"Do you want to talk about it?"

Modo just stared into his mug, and Kiwi waited patiently, but after a few minutes of silence, she decided to help him along.
"I, uh... Throttle told me you lost someone... besides your parents. A girl?"
