I can't believe we are actually here! We are standing outside THE Rockefeller building and it is HUUUGE and so tall! My close friend YBFN had called me over a month ago telling me she had tickets to The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Excited wasn't enough for a word! I had been a huge fan since SNL and since living in NYC I hadn't had the balls to apply for tickets. YBFN knew how much I wanted this, and what makes it better today is my birthday. This has got to be one of the best birthdays ever!
We arrived 10 minutes earlier than our recommended arrival time. We are both organized people and being late isn't acceptable. It's better to be early than rushing around and being late. My mom always taught me that and I carried it through life with me ever since. I couldn't take in the size of the building, Google images is no match! This building was a lot taller than it seems on Google.
When it was near our time, we had walked into the building and up to the studio. I was linked arms with YBF and both smiling like idiots! Those who know me, know just how much this actually means to me! "Happy Birthday!" said the kind lady who was directing us where to go. I then remembered I had my Happy Birthday badge clipped on my shirt. I looked at the floor hoping no one else heard her, then lifted my head and flashed her a smile. I was always very uncomfortable receiving birthday wishes. We were seated in the front row opposite Jimmy's desk and I smiled at my wristband. I nudged YBFN who was looking around the studio, "thank you so much for this!" I quietly squealed. YBFN threw me on her best smiles and nodded.
It was time for the show to start, it started with Higgins introducing Jimmy with The Roots playing music. I was so excited to be here that I couldn't keep a smile off my face the entire time. My face lit up when Jimmy came out to begin his monologue, It was so amazing to feel close to him, like being in the same building and studio as him! My heart was beating through my ears, and I felt so relieved I wasn't picked out like some audience members were to have a microphone fitted, the whole room would hear my heart beat. Unfortunately, YBFN was one of the people that did get picked. It was so Jimmy could talk to them near the end of the show. I was seated on the end seat, which meant he would actually be standing next to me. The thought alone made my heart skip even more beats, I thought I might faint any second. YBFN nudged me causing me to look at her, as though she knows exactly what I'm thinking. She smiled at me reassuringly and it seemed to calm me down. I didn't really know why I was so nervous being here, I thought it may be due to me being a huge and loyal fan of Jimmy since basically the start of his career and gave up my thought about meeting or seeing him in person and here I am sat in the end seat, on the first row line, watching Jimmy.
After the monologue Jimmy introduced his first guest, the interview was very funny and I was loving every minute of being here. I surely hoped to come again. Every once in a while Jimmy would look at the audience and smile to everyone, and during commercials he would talk to people and answer questions they have for him. He was a good sport like that, always making time for his fans.
After commercials it was time for the second guest, in which they played a game of Charades which again, was hilarious! Then it was time for the audience questions. I felt my heart sink deeply into my stomach when the lights turned on so Jimmy could see who was wearing a mic, Jimmy started on the right hand side first, the audience could ask anything, similar to a QAQ (Question-answer-question) game. They got to ask Jimmy a question, Jimmy answers then Jimmy asks a question then the same person answers.
Jimmy ran up the top then down the left side.
"Is there anyone else?" Jimmy asks in his microphone, YBFN raises her hand. "Ah yes, hi there pal what's your name?" Jimmy asks her. My heart is beating a 100mph by this stage. I look to the side of me and see Jimmy's hand is only inches away from my arm, my gosh he smells so nice and he's like RIGHT THERE! I then felt Jimmy place his hand on the back of my seat to reach over to her slightly. Oh my gosh please don't faint! I felt myself getting flushed, I became really hot all of a sudden. He takes his hand away as YBFN stands up and places the microphone in front of her.
"Y/B/F/Nanswers him. I don't have a question, its more of a request..." Y/B/F/N begins and points down to me. Oh crap, panic starts building. Jimmy encourages her to continue with a chuckle. "Today is my close friend Y/N birthday and she's been a very loyal fan since your career took off with SNL. Could you sing her a happy birthday?" Y/B/F/N at this point is so calm and grinning really widely. I at this point, would wish the ground to swallow me up whole. Jimmy looks down with a grin and nods. He kneels next to me looks me right in the eye and begins. I can't help but smile, even if I was embarrassed in this whole moment!

As the audience applauds, Jimmy bends slightly to give me a hug and a quick kiss on the cheek before walking back to his desk. I wasn't even sure if I was dreaming anymore. I placed a hand over where he had just placed a kiss moments ago and couldn't feel my face. I turned to Y/B/F/N and she had the biggest grin possible. I shook my head slightly and tried my best to concentrate on the show, needless to say it was really impossible!
The show was now over, we stood up to leave behind the queue ready to walk out. As a thanks we all got a special treat for attending, it was a chocolate chip cookie! "Hmm my favorite" I say to Y/B/F/N who is standing behind me, I hear her hum in agreement. We make it to the ground floor, it took a while to get from the studio to here as it seemed people didn't really want to leave, and I can't blame them.
"Hey wait up you two!" we heard a man shout to us from behind. It was Jimmy. Y/B/F/N turned around and smiled at him. I didn't really get how she was so casual around him, she didn't even stutter when asking him the request back in the studio. The whole time being in the same room as him made my heart drop into my stomach.
"I apologize to run up on you like this guys, but I was thinking since its the end of the night and filming is done and its your birthday" he points towards me and takes a deep breath. "If you guys would like an autograph and maybe some free ice cream?" he smiled. Y/B/F/N and myself said yes in unison. Now I was freaking nervous. I hope I don't do anything that makes me seem like an idiot! "Alright that's awesome! Listen I just gotta grab my jacket but I'll meet you both outside" he pointed towards the doors to get out the building. He took off to get his jacket and Y/B/F/N and myself stood outside, it was a beautiful evening, New York was always full of life. And dark so at least my redness in my face won't show.
10 minutes later Jimmy meets up as planned. We were told it was a short walk so wouldn't actually need a taxi, and since it was a wonderful evening and we didn't mind. Jimmy had also invited some other birthday guests. It was true New York does make your dreams come true.
