Chapter 27
Jimmy/ Seto's POV
It's the night when it all happened. The night that I probably fucked up the most. Everyone is dead. Well, not everyone. But that's what it feels like. It feels like by saving the girl most important to me I have lost everything else. Mitch was taking it much worse than I was though. For the first hour he was silent as we found our way through the Minecon complex to find yet another base. All you heard from him was slow breathing. Then, once we were at our base he took the first table he saw and through it against the all. He was angry and he had every right to be. After his rage tired him out, all that was left to do is cry. So, that's what he did. He was in a corner. Crying.
Caroline was trying to reason with him and tell him that, "Hey, it's going to be all right." That didn't work though. Caroline, too, had her moments of pain. In between her attempts of helping Mitch, she would be silently bawling her eyes out. I didn't know what to do. It was all my fault. If I hadn't kept a better eye on Caroline then she wouldn't have fallen. And even if she did, if I hadn't been so stupid and had turned around I would have seen the elevator. I could have avoided this.
Moments later Caroline came up to me. "It's not your fault, you know," she started. "I know you and you're blaming yourself right now. Well, stop because it's not your fault. No one can stop anything from happening. That's not how life works. All you can do is help after the hurricane has torn up the town. So, please. Help." I didn't quite know what she meant, but I knew what I had to do. She started to cry again and I held her. I helped as best as I could.
After a few days of minimal zombie attacks, mostly because we never left the base, Caroline, Mitch and I set out to get our only hope of survival. Finding Maddie and persuading her to make the zombies stand down and not attack. Trying to co-exist. It's a stretch, but it's out best chance of survival. THe only problem is that we don't have a clue where to start. She could easily be surrounded by guards if that's something zombies do. Or maybe she's out in the open easy to get to. We don't know. It might have been easier if we had seen the complex within the last couple of days, but we've been a bit preoccupied grieving. We decided that tonight we would scope the place out to see where Maddie was and then leave her a note.
So, we did just that. That night we quietly opened the doors from our base when there was silence. We took careful steps as to assure out safety in not waking the undead. I scanned the entire complex until I found her... Or what looked like would be her. Maddie was on a chair passed out with sleeping guards around her. "Guys," I whispered to my friends. "She's down there." I pointed to the spot I had found her in. We all nodded to each other and headed straight for that spot. It took time, but eventually Caroline, Mitch and I had tip-toed to when Maddie was, trying our best to avoid stepping on the undead. Once there, we wrote a note. It read:
Dear Maddie...
