CHAPTER THIRTY TWO
princes & spies

( season three,
episode one )

❝ you're not very subtle, do you
know that? ❞

"𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐊𝐒 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐋𝐄𝐓𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐌𝐄 𝐂𝐑𝐀𝐒𝐇 your lunch." Veronica looked over at Leo, who was sitting next to Kim in the booth directly across from her and Jack. Milton was sitting on a chair at the end of the table. "This is much better than writing an essay."

The brunette smiled, stealing an olive from Jack's meal. "You did kinda just appear," she said, tilting her head at him. "Were you just waiting for us to show up at Phil's or what?"

"It was a happy coincidence," he replied, and she hummed, her glance bouncing between Leo and Kim, a knowing smile tugging at her lips as she took another sip of her soda.

Just then, Phil walked over to their table. "And now it's time for my favorite part of your dining experience," he told the group who looked up at him. "The check!"

Veronica snuck a glance at the total, her eyes widening as she locked eyes with her friends. Jack shook his head. "Guys, relax," he said, and she glanced at him. "I'm paying today. My new job at the dojo means I can treat my friends to a nice meal. You guys want dessert?"

Milton shook his head with a small groan. "Oh, I'm good. Dessert at Phil's is disgusting. It's just a scoop of hummus drizzled with sweet mold."

"Forget dessert," Kim added. "I'm gonna go work out."

"I'll come with you," Leo said, both of them standing up.

"Whoa." They looked over at Jack, who had finally seen the bill for lunch. "That's a little bit more than I expected." He furrowed his brows. "Um—we didn't order five baba ghanoush platters."

"Oh." Jerry walked over to them, a stack of food in his arms. "No, I did. Yeah, I heard you were buying. Thanks, Jack."

Veronica rolled her eyes, leaning her head on Jack's shoulder when she heard Phil's desperate shouts. "Put on your fancy hairnet, Tootsie!" She furrowed her brows as Phil came out from the kitchens in what appeared to be a traditional outfit from his country. "Uh—you have to leave," he said, bouncing from table to table in the restaurant. "You, leave! You can stay." He pointed at Veronica and Kim. "You can stay."

"Phil, what's going on?" Veronica asked, tilting her head.

"The Prince of Hachmachistan is coming here to see me, and I don't want him looking at anyone who's not pleasing to the eyes," he explained, and she hummed in understanding. "And—uh—I'll be honest with you, Milton... You, my friend, very much on the fence."

She pressed her lips together. "Ouch."

"Why is the Prince of Hachmachistan in Seaford?" Kim asked, furrowing her brows.
