I do not own any of Marvel's characters or plots, only the ones I came up with myself.
Chapter 6
I walked out before Fury could say anything else. I whipped my face of tears not really sure where I was going but I kept on walking. Once I stopped I found I was in the detention center again and sat against the wall looking towards where the cell used to be. My heart ached as I remembered all the times that I had been put in that cell and Phil had taken care of me. Just remembering the memory made me start to sob again. I brought my knees to my chest and let the tears fall again. The door opened and closed across the room and I listened as the footsteps came around towards where I was sitting then they sat down. I looked up from the ground to see Steve looking down at me solemnly. He opened his mouth to say something but no words came out before I wrapped my arms around his torso crying into his shoulder.
"Shh, it's alright," he said putting his head on mine wrapping his arms around me.
We sat in silence for awhile when Tony walked in glancing over at us before going to the railing.
"Was he married?" Steve asked still having an arm on me.
"No," Tony answered, "There was a uh...cellist, I think."
"In Portland," I added.
"I'm sorry," Steve apologized, "He seemed like a good man."
"He was an idiot," Tony said.
"Tony!" I scolded.
"Why? For believing?" Steve asked.
"For taking on Loki alone," Tony answered.
"He didn't have a choice," I said.
"He was doing his job," Steve added.
"He was out of his league. He should have waited. He should have..." Tony trailed off.
"Sometimes there isn't a way out, Tony," Steve answered as Tony walked away from us. Steve got up to follow him leaving me by myself.
"Right. How did that work for him?" Tony spat back.
"Is this your first time you've lost a soldier?" He asked.
"We are not soldiers!" Tony turned around furiously, "I am not marching to Fury's life!"
"Guys, stop fighting," I said but knew it wouldn't do anything so I just gave up.
"Neither am I! He's go the same blood on his hands as Loki does. Right now we've got to put that aside and get this done. Now Loki needs a power source, if we can put together a list..." Steve fired back.
Tony was looking at the blood stained wall across the room, "He made it personal."
I felt the rage inside of me fire up as they talked of Loki.
"That's not the point," Steve answered.
"That is the point. That's Loki's point. He hit us all right where we live. Why?"
"To tear us apart," Steve answered Tony's question.
"He had to conquer his greed, but he knows he has to take us out to win, right? That's what he wants. He wants to beat us and he wants to be seen doing it. He wants an audience," Tony said.
They went on talking and the anger inside of me grew as my hatred for Loki did as well. Why did it have to be Phil? I stared at the ground intensely not even listening to their conversation anymore. I had to leave when I got too out of control I was going to hurt people.
"Woah, what's going on?" Tony asked as the room started to shake.
I held my hands in fists. No, I'm going to hurt them. I have to leave. I can't hurt anymore people. Steve looked back to me.
"Adeline, are you doing this?" He asked calmly.
"I can't...I can't control it," I said terrified as I watched the room shake. Steve rushed over to me sitting in front of me.
"You have to, it'll be okay. We're going to get Loki, we know where he is. He's going to Stark Tower," he answered trying to sooth me but it didn't work.
I got up quickly, "I have to go." I went to leave but a bunch of agents came rushing in with paralyzer guns in hand, "No, I don't want to hurt anyone."
"Stand down," Steve commanded them but they stayed put.
I backed away into the corner, "Please, I don't want to hurt anyone. Let me go." Steve pushed through them and grabbed my hands holding them gently.
"I know you're not going to hurt anyone. Just take a few deep breaths..." He said calmly.
I nodded looking up at him and slowly the shaking stopped.
"We need to take her to her cell," one of the agents ordered.
"I really don't think that's necessary," Steve said turning his back, standing protectively in front of me.
"We have our orders," he said sternly, "Let's go."
They grabbed my shoulders and walked in a huge box with Tony and Steve in tow. I had to get out of here. If they left me by myself I was sure to go insane. I watched as we passed the hallway to the what was the broken propeller. Then I had the idea, shoving one of the agents down I ran down the hallway.
"Agent Taylor!"
"Adeline, come back!"
They all shouted running after me. I turned the corner quickly and opened the door and ran to the edge of the helicarrier before launching myself off and into the sky.
