I haven't mentioned Claire yet... I guess that's because there isn't much to say. You see, I'm a pretty shy person and tend to just get along with everyone (Claire isn't one of them). She always has a bad attitude and marches around like she's the queen of our island, no, the queen of the world. I think they rescued her from the year 2110 or something but she was there before I was. Right off the bat she bossed me around and made it clear she was much more powerful than me. As you can probably imagine, she's the last person I want to be stuck with in a stressful situation. Yet hear she is, swimming towards me sputtering and cursing making her way through the mucky water.
"Thanks for helping me!" She snaps rolling her eyes, her voice dripping with bitter sarcasm. Her usual tone of voice. There are black smears running all over her face...makeup, I believe that's what they call it.
"Oh, uh sorry." I slip my way down the muddy bank and slosh into the water.
Her long creepy nails dig into my wrists as I help her stand up in the gunk. We wade through the waist deep water back to the shore. We probably looked like a couple of fools as we slipped multiple times before reaching the grass line. Once we caught our breath she looked at me and I knew what was coming.
"So you messed up already?" She smirked. "They sent me here to try and save your little derailed rescue mission."
" I was knocked unconscious." I say looking at the ground. Eye contact would mean certain death.
"Whatever, good think I'm here, so where'd they go?" She's looking around.
"Well like I said, I was unconscious so I don't know."
"God do you even know any magic, like at all?"
She mutters a few things and a smoky path appears.
"This way." She plainly states but she's already walking. I just follow behind not saying anything.
We trudge, our shoes sloshing and squeaking as we go.
"Did you hear that?!" My head shot up as I hear a yell up ahead.
"Hear what?" Claire turns towards me. I tend to hear things others don't, I guess I just have really good hearing. I don't answer her I just start bolting, disrupting the smoky path as I speed through the late afternoon air. Based on the time of day I know that the boy is going to be shot any moment. I have to hurry. I can hear Claire yelling or something behind me but I'm too focused to care. Then there they are. A gun aimed from the fat mans shoulder at the boys still damp hair. They are about fifteen feet apart and I hear a clicking sound, can't be a good sign. Suddenly everything goes slow and silent, it's definitely Claire's magic. So slow I see the mans muscles tense in his fingers and there's a spark in the gun. I don't know what to do so I just jump and run towards the purple eyed guy and try to grab the gun from him, but then everything is a normal speed again as I hear a loud bang. I don't really know what happened but I crumble to the ground and there are black dots in my eyes. I see Claire kill the man right in front of me and the boy runs over and shakes me but that just causes a pain to become apparent on the inner part of my right shoulder. I cringe, from the pain and also the sight of someone being killed. I guess I got shot but I'm still alive. I let my head roll to the side and look down at my bloody shoulder. I pass out immediately at the sight of my own blood pumping out onto the grass.
