SABRINA'S POV --
Someone was here. I knew that part. I had woken up a few minutes, just laying on the ground and trying not to stare at Anon's body. Yet when I heard voices and footsteps, I immediately shot up and got to my feet.
When I found my way out of the training room, I strained my ears to hear what was going on. Damn me for not having super hearing! So I slowly got closer, wishing it was the police or some type of authority. But then again, if they saw what I had done, wouldn't they lock me up in jail? Or what if they discovered my bionics?
Even if neither of those things happened, and they rescued me, where would I go? Surely I couldn't just go back to my fam--the Davenports, right? They didn't love me... right? They had moved a few months after I was captured. Some family.
Finally, I peeked my head out around the corner of a hallway, peering around to see if anyone was there. When the coast was clear, I silently crept across the long path, glancing behind me every now and then to be safe.
And then, the power went out. I blinked, tapping my eyes with my index finger and triggering my night vision on. I inspected the scene through the darkness, trying to make sure no one was here.
Just as I rounded across another corner, I heard frantic whispers.
"There!" someone whisper-yelled.
I gulped, quickly using my night vision to spot my attacker. It was a group of four people, who were looking confused, yet determined. One of them seemed to be able to spot me, while the other three just stood in place, waving their hands through the darkness.
When a few of the lights flickered back on, the other three began chasing me as well. I blinked, before promptly pivoting on my foot and bolting off in the opposite direction. I heard their loud footsteps thundering after me, making me only push harder and harder.
Suddenly, one of them charged past me and came to a stop right in front of me. Before I could come to a halt, I crashed into them and bowled the both of us over. The person's breath hitched, and I figured I must have winded them.
I felt slightly guilty, but then realized I was still being chased. So I quickly got back to my feet, and raced away. I only heard one pair of footsteps follow after me.
Our pursuit continued until I was nearing the next hallway. I could feel the person's eyes staring at my back, and their hand reaching out to me. I just resumed running, as fast as I could. My legs ached, my lungs felt as though they were ablaze, and my heart was hammering against my chest.
Suddenly, I felt the person shout, "NO!" Following that frustrated bellow was a loud thud, and a yell of pain. I winced at the sound of the person yelling out in agony, but kept running and running.
When I rounded a corner, I was a panting mess. I held my arms above my head to allow more oxygen into my lungs, which barely aided my exhaustion. I glanced behind me, before something odd happened.
'Duplication engaged.'
'What the heck does that mean?' I asked myself.
And then, I felt something peculiar occur. I felt as though someone had ripped half of my body apart. I gritted my teeth together, clenching my fists as well, before slowing my pace and letting my body come to a halt to stop running.
But after the uncomfortable sensation passed, I reopened my eyes and nearly screamed.
Right in front of me, was... me.
I yelped, stumbling back in shock.
"What the--"
I frowned, before testing my theory.
I shut my eyes, before concentrating as hard as I could. It was as though my clone was a dog. As soon as I gave the command to raise her hand, it happened: she raised her hand. I peeped my other eye open to watch her, and was surprised when she raised the other hand as I ordered.
"T-This... is so cool!" I gasped.
Frowning for a small moment, I thought through my head 'Speak!' It sounded like a dog command, but it worked anyways.
"Hello," she obeyed easily, waving her hand once more at me.
"Wow," I sighed. "This is... awesome. But wait... how do I turn it off?" I muttered to myself.
Cocking my head to the side, I quickly tapped a finger to my eyes, hoping to turn it off. Nothing happened.
"How the heck do I do this?" I wondered aloud.
I then thought to myself, 'Maybe it's like triggering one of my bionics? Maybe I just have to think to myself or something?'
Nodding, I then ordered mentally, 'Duplication... disengage?'
Suddenly, my clone vanished with another wave, leaving me alone. I sighed in relief, before turning back to the hallway where I came from.
"Who were those people?" I asked myself.
And then, I gasped. 'Maybe the police found me?'
I quickly shut my eyes, before rendering my mind into the depths of my brain. I swiftly looked through my thoughts and bionic files, searching for something that must have given away my location.
'GPS Chip Signal: ON' it said, once I stumbled across a certain file. I mentally groaned, before quickly shutting off my chip signal. I couldn't risk anyone finding me. What if my fam--the Davenports figured out where I was?
'GPS Chip Signal: OFF'
I sighed in relief.
Then, I glanced around in bewilderment. I was free of Anon, but I had no family to go back to. No matter how much I missed the Davenports, it was obvious they didn't miss me... right?
I huffed to myself. "Now what?"
