The coffee and the smell of fresh baked sweets filled the air, the smell of the morning drizzle came drifting in with every customer, the laughter of others filled the bakery, and everyone came piling in for a chance to buy some coffee to start the day. Morning time was always the busiest time of the day; from opening to noon, people of all sorts came in hungry and ready to eat the freshly made bread. At least once a day, the staff will face a grumpy customer and some days the customer would leave a frown on the staff's face.
Monika's favorite time of the day was the morning. She loved to sip the recently brewed coffee as she took orders, she wasn't being pained by a headache yet, and a few close friends came to order from her before they headed off the work. She loved to be surrounded by the food that she was honored to help make. It wasn't often that her Stepmom, the owner of the bakery, allowed her to even come near her when she baked, much less cook.
But this morning was different. Her Stepmom woke her up early in the morning, way be for the bakery even had a peep in it. She was given the opinion to help around the kitchen, baking the bread that the customers will soon eat. She took it up, being one of the interests she had.
Monika gave a soft smile at a young girl who bite into a bread that Monica made not long ago. The thought of the girl enjoying her food left her feeling warm and fuzzy inside.
"Monika!" She heard the voice of her Stepmom yell at her. "Time for your break!"
Monika walked away from the counter, untied her apron, and sat on a booth at the bakery. Her friend was on their way soon. But knowing her, she'll be late, doing her makeup until it satisfied her and her hair til it didn't have a hair strand and never moving from its position.
Time went by as Monika finished her coffee, reading a newspaper. She was ready to grab her laptop when she heard the loud voice of Felicia, "Monika!" She jogged over with a big smile across her face. She held the fashionable handbag close to her and her heels clicked on the tile. Monika could already smell the perfume that she applied heavily.
Felicia grew up with models for parents so the fashion was handed to her at a young age, so she often tried to live up to their fashion standards. She loved to drown herself in Chanel and wear shoes that were severely past Monika's budget. Monika could see that she wore her brother's new designer line of knitted crop tops, in ivory, big round sunglasses that framed her face, and deep red glossy lipstick that was applied perfectly on her plump lips.
"Moni!" She cheered once again, sitting down on the opposite side of the booth. She tasted her fruit flavored frappuccino and licked her lips carefully. Her lipstick didn't budge.
She gently removed her glasses before continuing, "I got something for you!" She gave her a big smile that she gave Monika once she gave her a bad idea. She tossed her a black paper, with hints of gold.
Monika suspiciously took the paper, keeping her eyes on Felicia who still had a smile on her face, and she looked at it.
With cursive gold letters it read:
