"And because I have a sister, I'll always have a friend."
~UnknownI scrolled up and down my newsfeed, sighing. Nothing was entertaining me. I was just about to turn on Pandora when I heard my daddy calling for me.
"Hope! Come on, your mother had the baby", My father says.
Finally! I was so anxious while walking down the long hallway of the hospital, all kinds of things were going through my mind. I couldn't wait to see her. I pushed through the doors into
the room to get a view at my new sister.I looked down into my mother's arms, where she held a silent baby doll wrapped in a pink blanket. I felt like I was in a movie, looking into her face changed me that day. I knew at that moment that I had never seen anything more beautiful in this world. She was a copy of me but 10x cuter. I held her for hours, just smiling and making faces at her.
"You don't know how special you are, and how lucky we are to have you" I whispered to her.3 days later, she came home and I was so ecstatic. Although she cried through the night, she was precious to me. My babydoll.

Although it was just us four, we had a good life going; me, Patience, and our parents. My father was at the top of his law firm, while my mother held her position well as the owner of "Perfectly Polished", a nail salon that was doing great in business.
We were your typical well put together family; we ate together, had special family outings, vacations, and everything else that makes a strong family.
Our mother kept us well dressed and made sure that I was fully engaged in school, never missing an award ceremony or parent teacher conference. She taught me manners and how to properly keep myself together as a woman. I'm thankful for that today.
My father on the other hand, was always busy. Still, he kept a good relationship with me as well as my sister. He was the kind of man that I'd want to marry, even though he insisted that I get married at 45.
Due to how strict my parents were, I didn't have many friends, no one wanted to be friends with the only 16 year old who had to go in before street lights and couldn't ever stay for the slumber parties. But that was okay, cause me and my family were close.
Every Thursday we would play family games as my sister watched paying little attention, I always won when we played Uno, they probably knew that I always hid at least two cards under my seat.
It was an ordinary Thursday (or as we thought so) when we were waiting on my Dad to get home. He had called earlier to say he beat the case of a serial killer who kept getting off easy. My mother even baked him a cake for his victory. I fed Patience as my mother danced and sung along to her favorite New Edition song.
"Sunny days, everybody loves them! Tell me baby, can you stand the rainnnnn?" I smiled at her as she iced the cake singing her heart out. Once she was finished, we sat down and watched tv for a while waiting for my dad to come from work.We waited and waited ..
No call, no text, nothing. By the time 10:30 came, my mother said it was best if we went to bed. But that night, I couldn't sleep. My father was never late coming home. He had a strict routine and this definitely wasn't a part of it.
I stared at the wall mostly all night until I saw blue and red lights seaming through my blinds, then I heard a knock on the door, resulting in muffled conversations following my mom's loud and dreadful screams.
Slipping out of my bed and down the stairs quietly, I turned my head towards the living room to see a picture I never will be able to erase from my mind. In front of me was my mother cradling herself with her head in her knees weeping. At that moment, I couldn't hear the police giving their condolences for our loss, at that moment I heard nothing. I felt nothing. I became weak and my body felt numb, as I tried to crawl up the stairs. Eventually making it to my bed, I stared at the ceiling. Even the creak of my door didn't get my attention from the white walls of my room. I felt hands wrap around me and heard the snuffles of who I knew belonged to my mother.
