Avery's POV

"Hey Mikey!" I said while hopping in his car for him to drive me to school. ((I don't even care that he only has a permit. Courtesy of one of my first chapters))

"Hey, kitten." He smiled back at me. Callie drove herself today and we said we'd all meet up at "the tree", it's the biggest tree on our school campus and about everyone meets there.

"OMG! Aves! You look gorgeous!" Callie ran and hugged me when we reached each other.

"Well I can DEFINITELY say the same for you!" We both giggled and heard Michael,

"I can say that I have the prettiest girlfriend and best friend." He pulled us into a group hug and kissed our heads. Michael was like Callies brother, that doesn't annoy her of course. They have always got along and are the example of "sibling goals".

We headed into the high school foyer and down the hall to our lockers. Michael had his locker moved to the one beside mine, telling the teacher he didn't like his old locker buddy. How sweet?

Callie and I make sure that we register at the same time so we can have lockers by each other. So I had Callie to my left and Michael to my right. Perfect!

Mikey intertwined our fingers while we walked to class, passing Calum on the way. I hid behind Michael's shoulders until he was gone.

I was dreading after school. Yes I have youth group at church but it starts at 7 and that leaves 4 hours that Luke will want to work on the project with us. Great.

"C'mon babe." Michael said pulling my wrist. I let out a high pitch sqeal, "OW!" He snatched my wrist and pulled up my sleeve revealing my fresh cuts from the night before.

"Avery. I know you cut your legs but your wrists too? Baby..." he said holding out the last word and gently pulling me into a warm, sympathetic hug. He pulled away and kissed my quivering lips.

"You aren't going to cut anymore. Your blades are gone and you can always talk to me about anything. I lo....- I'm here for you." I was almost in tears and actually let a few slip, which were wiped away by Michael's sweater paws.

He walked me to my first class which I knew was gonna be hell without him.

-After school-

Michael walked me and Callie home because she was going to stay at my house until youth started.

"After you." Michael tipped his imaginary hat towards Callie and I as we walked through the doorway.

"Guys watch this!" Callie yelled as she tried to do a handstand but resulted in falling on her face.

"Careful there" A voice from behind us spoke up. He was here early, of course, for the project. Great.

"Hi Luke." I said blandly. Michael turned away and made his way toward the kitchen. Callie ended up heading to the bathroom and Luke just stood there awkwardly staring at me.

"What?!" I said after a few minutes, breaking the silence.

"You're just pretty to look at." He said half smiling.

"Don't." I said putting my hand up to block his face. I turned on the heels of my feet and went to the living room. I sat down on the couch and just to my luck, Luke sits right next to me. I rolled my eyes which made him laugh but his face went blank when Michael walked back in.

"Nice try Hemmings. Get the fuck out of my spot." Mikey gestured for Luke to move, but Luke didn't move.

"Don't try me." He was mad now which was never good. Michael may seem like a softie but he'll beat the shit out of you if you.

Michael set his drink down and aggressively grabbed Luke by the collar of his leather jacket and pulled him out of the seat next to me. "So glad you like to cooperate." Michael said angrily at Luke.

The next couple of hours or so were boring. There was a lot of studying and project making and don't forget glaring.

5:30 pm
Luke's POV

I like Avery. There I said it. She's dating Michael and not me but I get that. He's a good guy and I'm the bad.

She's just so gorgeous, long brown hair and her emerald eyes that light up when she's happy. Her kindness to everyone, her bright smile that can change a mans intentions.

She's perfect and all I want is her. But I'll wait for as long as I have to. They always say friendship is the best thing for a relationship so I'll start there.

I left about 20 minutes ago because it was getting late already. Avery and Callie missed youth but they were fine with it. It's now 8:40 pm and I'm driving home.

Avery's POV

Callie walked home and Mikey and I chilled on the couch. ((Not like that you nastys)) I was getting sleepy and I closed my eyes but Michael must have thought I was asleep. He carried me up to my room and set me on my bed, folding the covers over me.

"Sleep tight Avery, I..." It seemed like he was contemplating something. "I love you Avery." He kissed my cheek, "More than a friend." And I heard my door close. I smiled, my eyes still closed and fell asleep with the amazing night I just had.
