The rain on Tuesday was heavy. The sky was dark purple, and the downpour was so strong that umbrellas barely helped.

Cordy stood in the library lobby, looking miserably at the rain. She had forgotten her umbrella again. Her long, wide-leg jumpsuit was already soaking up water from the damp floor like a sponge.

"Hala

"Hala." she whispered, looking at the bottom of her pants that was now dark and heavy with dirty rainwater.

Across the street, a group of girls stood under a cafe awning. They looked perfect, like they were in a photoshoot. One of them was leaning on her boyfriend—a guy from Leehan’s Taekwondo team who had just finished practice and crossed over to meet his girlfriend.

"Wait, is that her?" the girl asked, pointing a manicured finger across the busy, rain-slicked street toward the library lobby where Cordy stood looking small. "The one from the fountain incident?"

Her boyfriend glanced over, squinting through the downpour. "Yeah, that's her. Leehan actually skipped our post-practice meal just to make sure she got to the Science Hall after she spilled her coffee."

"No way," another girl snickered, adjusting her expensive blazer. "She looks like a lost middle-schooler. I can't believe Leehan is wasting his varsity jacket on that. Her clothes look like a rug soaking up the whole street."

Inside the cafe, leaning against the glass door, was Wayve Mordechai—Morghana’s half-brother. He wasn't joining the girls' loud gossiping; instead, he was quietly watching the street with a neutral expression. When Leehan appeared on the opposite sidewalk, Wayve’s eyes narrowed slightly.

Cordy had no idea they were all watching her, but she felt a strange prickle of unease as she watched the sea of students passing by with their umbrellas

Just as she was about to run for it and get soaked, a large black umbrella opened right next to her head.

"Hey." Leehan’s deep voice made her jump.
