Lani's pov
"Come on come on come on come on," I said, dragging on the back side of the tent cover thingy (like, the things that you see at festivals).These humans need to hurry up.
We (all the band/orchestra/choir people) were going to this lake that Zen (Ashly's cousin) found online.
"Lani," Sara said. "Quit complaining. We're almost there, see? There's the lake right there. It's like, literally ten feet away."
Hussaina looked back behind me,"Olivia, hold it up higher." She said.
"Well, we can carry this thing ten feet faster." I said and looked over at Allison. "Come on, help me out here Ally, can you tell these guys to move fasterrrrrr?"
"Do you wanna fall down and break your butt?"
I sighed. "No"
"Good," Allison said "now that your butt is still in tact, we're here,"
We set the tent cover thingy down a few feet from the water and set our stuff under it.
I took off my shorts and ran into the water and immediately ran back, "ITS FREEZING"
"That's because lakes are colder than the sun," Alex said, pulling out a chair.
Ashly went into the really shallow part of the water and laid down."This actually feels kinda nice," she said. "Just get used to the cold and you'll be fine."
Then, for some stupid reason,Brook decided to run straight into the water up until it covered her head.
"THATS NOT WHAT I MEANT!"Ashly screamed at her.
"WELL ITS WHAT I MEANT!"Brook yelled back.
Zen laid out some towels on the ground and Andre got out the drinks.
I watched from under the tent as Sara and Laura sat on some big rocks and watched the waves crash into each other. They were adorable.
Mara lied down next to me closed her eyes.
"Nice to have a day where you can just relax and do nothing."
Then there was a scream followed by "AAH MY FOOT"
We turned around and saw Mya with a piece of a broken bottle in her foot.
Everyone ran toward her and crowded her.
"CALL AN AMBULANCE!!!"she yelled. And then she collapsed on the ground and got more glass in her arm and chest.
Caryna dialed 911 and said "hello? Yeah I need and ambulance. Im at lake Ray Hubbard. My friend just got a huge piece of glass stuck in her foot, arm and chest."
When the ambulance got to the lake, they got a got Mya onto a gurney and Caryna and I got in with her.
"Meet us at the hospital!" I yelled as I slammed the doors shut.
I held Mya's left hand and Caryna held her right.
A tear rolled down Carynas cheek as she whispered "it's ok...you're gonna be ok. I've got you."
Sara's pov
"EVERYONE GET IN THE VAN!" I yelled.
We all crammed into the van as the sirens faded into the distance.Once the last door was shut, I slammed the gas to catch up with the ambulance.
When we got to the hospital, we found Caryna and Lani crying in the waiting room.
As soon as we got there, Caryna ran up to Olivia and sobbed into her shirt"T-they said that they gotta take the glass out of her immediately c-cause it looks like it carries some kind of infection."
Lani brought her knees up to her chest and sniffed.
Then a nurse came out and looked at us all with a worried expression on her face.
"Are you all friends of Mya?" We nodded."I'm afraid that the glass that got into her carried cancer. Specifically leukemia. I'm so sorry."
"Can we see her???" Carina asked, her voice cracking at the end of the sentence.
"Yes, as soon as she is finished getting blood taken and is given some pain killers. I'll tell you when you may enter."
"It's not fair..." Caryna sobbed."It's not fair that she has to go through this."
The nurse came out of the room with an empty medical-bag-thing.
"She is finished. You can all go in now."
Mya's pov
I woke up in a hospital room with Caryna looking into my eyes. Hers were soaked.
"She's awake!" she whisper-shouted.
I looked around and saw everyone from the lake staring at me with sad faces and dead eyes.
"Caryna...what's going on?" I tried to sit up but there was a sharp pain in my chest and arm.
She pressed a black button with the words 'pain pump' on them. Then some blue liquid slid through a tube that ran into my stomach. It kinda felt good.
"Mya... You blacked out after that glass got in your chest. The nurse s-said that you have leukemia."
A wave of panic rolled over me.
I. Have. Cancer.
"What else?" I asked.
"Not much...but we're all going home early. You need to be with your family."
Then the nurse told them all to leave cause she needed to do some nursey-stuff.
I grabbed Carynas hand. "Does she have to go?"
"No."
"Thanks"
She squeezed my hand. "You're gonna be fine."
