Marissa, Sara, Olivia and I were going over to Myas house to hang out. She's been losing a lot of weight and she's constantly sick. But the doctors have been shrinking the tumors and she still keeps her head up. Just like she did when she and Olivia went to smith for their 8th grade year.
When we arrived at her house, her mom greeted us at the door and hugged each of us. Mya and caryna were on the couch watching "Love Actually" for the fourth time even thought Christmas was in like, fifty days. Caryna was painting her nails a dark red color.
"Hey Mya," Marissa said "what y'all been up to?"
"Meh, same as normal. Health is getting better though." Mya pointed to the scar on her (almost) bald head."the doctors tried another form of treatment, no luck." She shrugged.
Marrissa smiled one of her smiles that spoke to your heart as if to say 'I'm genuinely happy to be with you' Whenever one of those was flashed at us, no one could be in a bad mood.
Caryna motioned for us to sit down and watch the movie with them. We sat down and talked a bit about how school was and how we couldn't wait till Christmas.
Then Myas mom walked in and said that they needed to go to the hospital for another attempt at killing all the cancer cells.Carynas pov
I decided to go with Mya to the hospital cause...well...she's my best friend in the world and, who knows? Maybe today will be the day she's cured.
We led her in to the treatment room and she laid down on the bed.
"Ya ready?" I asked
"Yup," she said, her voice full of confidence,"bring on round three."
A few moments later, a nurse came in and made Myas mom and I leave so they could start the operations.
We waited in the lobby in an awkward silence. I felt weird to be sitting with her mom and not her. I stared at my thumbs and at the red nail polish Mya recommend for me. Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but maybe when she leaves us, this will be one of my fondest memories of her.
