Chapter one
Still Alive?
~
I stood there, staring at the three black caskets before me; seeing nothing...
"I am sorry for your loss." echoed from all around me...
Those people didn't care about my parents or my brother! They just care about their reputation!!!
It was mid afternoon when my friend, Natasha, walked in. "Hey Sunset," she said. "I'm sure you've had enough of all of these fake mourners; let's get you home." She whispered.
She drove me to my house as the silent tears rolled down my cheeks.
I know I should be happy I'm still alive... but at this point, I would rather be in a casket along side my little brother, Jason, and my parents, George and Helen.
Being alive was usually a cause to celebrate, but not now that I have lost everything...
"Sunset Victoria Lavender, are you even listening to me?" asked my mom's best friend, Linda.
I haven't even realized we stopped walking. We were in the parking lot outside of the funeral home... The actual funeral is going to occur tomorrow at 2:00 PM, right after Mr. Fate's class.
"Hello, anybody in there?" Did she really have to act so rude? I'm mourning here! "Answer me you insolent child! After all, it's your fault they died!"
"Hey!" Natasha came to my defense. "You have no reason to be rude! It is absolutely not her fault her family's dead!"
"Yes it is!" Linda argued. "If she wasn't so busy enjoying a nice warm bath while her parents and brother were being slaughtered one by one, she would have called the police and would have been able to save them!!!"
"And what were you doing?!" Natasha retorted. "Sunset told me how you cancelled your visit that night so you could go out with your boyfriend! You could have saved them too!" Linda was married, but everybody knew she was cheating on her husband, Henry, with Mr. Fate...
Well who could blame her? Mr. Fate was one hot-
"Yeah, well for your information, I didn't go on that date!" She snapped at Natasha.
"Why, did Mr. Fate forget to show up at your bed? Oops, I mean house." I was sick and tiered of her and her snooty behaviour.
She gasped and stalked off.
"Thanks." I told Natasha.
"No problem." She replied, looking tiered. Then again it's almost exam time, so that is what half the student populace looked like... The good half that took school seriously.
As we were driving home in Natasha's car, all I could think was: Why am I still alive?
I could hear him or her running behind me... How could I still be alive?
It defies logic!
Why would a person kill a 16 year old girl's whole family a day after her birthday, come into the bathroom with a knife while she showers, and then leave her unharmed?
I didn't even get to call the police, so he wouldn't have had to hurry to escape or ANYTHING!!!
It didn't make sense... it just didn't make sense...
