Chapter 4-The Hyperi0n C0rp0rati0n

“Will you marrow me?” a psycho shouted as it ran up to Zero.

He gave a hard swing with his katana at the psycho, the blade slicing the body in half. He smirked, and watched as the body fell to the ground with a sudden and last groan from the soul.

“As your soul moves on/I cannot help but feel well/Because I killed you.” he muttered to the last corpse.

He had successfully destroyed and wiped out the entire remaining Bloodshot camp. And upon completing this quest, his one little statement from Claptrap was, “I still can't believe you didn't get my chill out joke.”

But throughout the whole mission, his mind had always wandered to the memory of Maya being beside him, trying to best him in everything. He always thought that he could feel her presence beside him, talking to him, laughing at him, challenging him. When he turned around occasionally, however, he never saw her. Why did this fact bother him so much?

As he decided to loot the place, he already knew the answer to this question. He liked—no, admired—her, and the true statement that she was with Axton ate at him. Whenever Axton's stupid name came around, the thoughts were always the idea that he would someday be dead. That didn't happen yet.

“Wait.” he said aloud to nobody. “Why shouldn't I just get rid of Maya? Wouldn't it make it easier just to fully get rid of her so I would stop thinking about her? And make sure Axton doesn't become happy?”

Zero liked the idea. The plan would be so simple! Send Maya tied up to any location Jack built, make sure they got rid of her for good, leave the Vault Hunters, and then finally go back to being an assassin for hires or killing for new challenges.

“Well,” Zero muttered under his breath, walking back through the abandoned Marrowfields, “maybe not that easy. And should I deem it necessary that making Axton upset pleases me?”

Maya paced back and forth outside on the balcony. She groaned, and hissed, “Why isn't Zero back yet?!”

Gaige had started to snort with laughter, which seemed to make Axton snigger.

Lilith threw them both hard looks, and snapped, “Now's not the time for laughing fits!” Though she too cracked a smile.

“Hey! This isn't funny!” Maya screamed, and the laughter ceased.

“Hold it, Maya. Don't start getting furious!” Axton pleaded. He did not want another temper with his girlfriend.

“Maybe Zero's just grabbing a drink from Moxxi's bar? He did look a little down at ol' Clappy's place.” Gaige suggested, unable to hold in the laughter at saying “ol' Clappy's.”

“Um...Gaige,” Maya started, an intense fire in her eyes, “since when would Zero drink?! He never does! Have you seen him once?!”

The Mechromancer held up her hands midway in front of her chest, warning, “Easy, gal'! I was playing witcha! Don't get all 'I'ma-melt-ya-face' with me!”

Then Gaige, Axton, and Lilith burst out laughing.

Oh. My. God! Maya thought, anger rushing through her veins. Why didn't they understand?! “You know what,” she hissed, “if none of you want to come with me to search for a missing Vault Hunter, fine! I'm searching, whether you like it or not!”
