Chapter 3-A R0mance Revealed

When should I leave this place?/Leave now: there is no danger./Leave later: there is.

Zero had gone on with his mind about the idea of truly leaving the God-forsaken planet Pandora. He had thought about it countless times. Exploring the other planets. Searching for a REAL challenge. It seemed like a pleasing plan. But he found it hard to leave with his mind worrying about Maya.

Idiot! Stop it!/Do NOT be vulnerable!/You shall be weakened!

It was true, however. Whenever his mind seemed to drift towards Maya, he found it hard to focus on the battlefield. Before, he remembered how he nearly got killed by the Hyperion bastard and tyrant Handsome Jack. That was when he didn't really like Maya. Or did he?

Snap...out of it...now!/If you don't focus, you die!/Death stops challenges.

He mentally smiled, muttering, “But he isn't as superior.”

“Zero,” piped a new voice that wasn't talking to him before, “are you going insane, or what?”

The Assassin turned to stare at Maya, throwing a :P emote at her as a response.

“So, that's how you wanna play it?” the Siren snapped back, fury in her eyes.

He shrugged, waving her off. He didn't feel up to the mood to duel her. And any which way, she'd beat him already. Considering that she had an elemental Phaselock ability on her.

       Shut up!

“Guess you can't handle me. Pity.” she murmured under her breath, looking away.

He continued to ignore her. He did not want to talk. It was not surprising that he wouldn't talk. Once the Vault Hunters had returned to Sanctuary from the Vault, he had been locked away in his room, not coming out. That didn't really bother him. He never really communicated with any of them along the quest anyway. Usually, he would have been a mystery to them. Always so sneaky. Always so silent. Always so deadly. He liked that.

“And finally, we're back.” Maya said aloud, almost jogging into the HQ.

He looked at her as she half-walked, half-ran. She was tempted to do something, but what? Was she tired and off to bed? Was she going to grab her gun and head down to shoot the bandit in Marcus' shop? What if she—

“Forget it. It isn't any interest to me.” he told himself, closing the door behind him.

She shouldn't have been any interest to him. But why was she? He personally knew that he shouldn't be in any relationship. Especially with a Siren. That would distract him, and if he was distracted, that would lead to death.

That is a mistake./It must not ever happen./Or I shall regret.

??????????

The next morning, a loud bang on the wall woke Zero with a start. Well, to be honest, with a start of making him fall off the side of the bed. He crashed onto the floor, his mask falling off. He picked it up, and fitted it back on, making sure that it was in place so no one would notice that it fell off. Before he left, he made sure that it was on securely. No one should know his identity.

If they did, he joked mentally, a :) hovering over his visor, it would be no fun.

In a swift move, Zero had swung out of his bedroom window to the balcony.
