Emmett had been splitting his concentration more and more lately. It came easily now.
Between putting himself back together after the CONTINUUM PROTOCOL and borrowing processing power from TINA, his mind had become flexible. McGuire was scared that Emmett would use the Protocol again, but McGuire didn't understand—
Emmett put himself back together a hundred times a day. Just because it was in cyberspace didn't make it any different.
So Emmett and TINA worked together in cyberspace on a dozen different things. It was mid-July now—which meant that they had roughly a month and a half until the Dunamen ship arrived. A month and a half to make sure everything was ready.
He'd spent a sizable amount of time studying Paragon—everything from his powers, fighting style, and mannerisms. He replayed footage of previous battles, using simulations to find the upper ranges of his abilities. One of which was the short battle over Vault Alpha between himself, Golden Boy, and Paragon.
Even though he was in cyberspace, Emmett touched the center of his chest. The spot where his antimatter reactor would be.
Soon, he thought. Soon he would set things right.
Emmett partitioned his feelings and continued his work.
QUERY: Fractal properties of the Mirror of Borrowed Fates.
LOADING SIMULATIONS...
The Mirror of Borrowed Fates is able to store vast amounts of magical data. A mage can use this information to cast a stored spell, even without knowing how to cast the spell. In doing so, the mirror can substitute information, energy, or both of those things at once. This greatly eases the burden on the spellcaster.
All of this is possible because of the fractal-like nature of the mirror. Information and energy are stored across the entire surface of the glass, allowing for hundreds of spells and enough power to cast Class 4 and 5 spells.
The maximum number of spells that can be stored is unknown and irrelevant. Emmett used his connection to the mirror to purge all other spells in favor of a single power given by Athena.
RESULTS:
The first ten shards of the mirror have remained stable, even after extensive testing.
NOTE: Information is retained in each shard, but power output is greatly diminished.
SPECIAL NOTE: Power is no longer a concern. We can supplement with external power. And with the antimatter reactors coming online, we have all the power we'll ever need.
TINA said, "It seems your intuition was correct."
Emmett chuckled. "I'm not even sure that I have intuition anymore. Let's continue cutting up the rest of the mirror and scale it down as far as we can. I need every piece I can get."
Icarus chimed in, "Intuition, projection, simulations—what's the point in making a distinction between them. They're all trying to predict the future, and there's no guarantee that it will be correct."
"That's a question that can wait for another time," Emmet replied. "I don't have the bandwidth for philosophy and semantics right now."
QUERY: Are there universal laws that govern superpowers and magic?

Successfully storing Athena's power in the Mirror of Borrowed Fates, as well as extensive testing on the structure of Vault Alpha have led to a breakthrough.
