Third Person POV

The construction site loomed in front of them - half-finished, half-forgotten. Dust hung in the air like it didn't know where else to go. Somewhere inside, a loose sheet of metal clanged against the wind.

Ethan shifted beside her, his satchel bumping against his hip. "You really believe that woman? That her son's possessed?"

Evelyn's arms folded before she even realized she was doing it. Her gaze traced the building's hollow windows. "I think it's drugs," she murmured. "But that's not the point."

She turned slightly toward him. "If we stop believing people the second they sound irrational, then we shouldn't be doing this job."

He studied her face for a moment, then nodded, understanding written across his features.

"Here." She reached into her coat and pulled out the Division card, pressing it into his hand. "Get something to eat. Coffee, too. Nothing fancy-Marcus still checks receipts."

That earned a grin. "Got it."

Evelyn watched him jog across the street toward the café, his jacket flapping against the cold breeze. When he disappeared behind a passing bus, the street fell back into silence. She turned to the building again.

And froze.

The world shifted - just slightly - like the air itself had eyes.

Cold prickled across her skin. She scanned the empty street, the alley, the gaps between the concrete pillars. A shape flickered in the shadow. Too still to be wind. Too quiet to be nothing.

No. Not here.

The smell of dust turned sharp. The edges of her vision dimmed. Her mind whispered a name she didn't want to hear.

Henry.

She stepped back. The air felt heavy, pressing in from all sides. She could feel him-

his breath,
his shadow,
the silence right before he-

A hand touched her shoulder.

Evelyn gasped and spun, stumbling backward until the pavement slammed against her. Her palms scraped concrete; her breath came apart in sharp, uneven bursts.

"Hey-! I just-" a man's voice stammered, too close, too sudden.

She barely heard him. All she could feel was the heat of that touch still burning through her coat - a memory, not his hand, but hers.

"Evelyn."

That voice - different. Softer. Grounded.

Her eyes blinked open through the haze. Arya was there now, kneeling beside her, one hand on her arm, the other hovering near her cheek, careful not to startle her further. The world steadied - barely - as if Arya's presence was pushing the air back into place.

Behind her, the man stood frozen, clutching a small brown wallet. "I-I was calling you," he said quickly. "You dropped this."

Arya took the wallet from him with a polite nod, her voice even. "Thank you."

He lingered for a second, then walked off, still glancing back - unsure if he'd just witnessed a panic attack or a haunting.

Only when he disappeared did Arya turn back, her tone soft and low.

"Hey," she murmured. "You with me?"

Evelyn nodded weakly, though her hands still trembled. "Yeah," she whispered. "Just... thought it was someone else."

Arya didn't ask who. She just held out her hand. "Come on."

Evelyn hesitated, then took it. Arya's hand was warm - solid. That warmth clung to her even after she was standing again.
