Kira Palmer
I didn't sleep well that night.
My tossing and turning was enough to keep Tyler awake as well which I felt incredibly guilty about. I couldn't turn my mind off and all I could think about was what would happen if I was involved in a war with my family on the opposite side. I apologized to Tyler every time I felt him move. He shrugged off my apologies and tried to comfort me every time. I was grateful for it but felt awful every time I looked and saw the slight bags under his eyes. He was patient with me and made me breakfast. I mainly pushed the food around on my plate, which he called me out on.
"Kira you have to eat." Tyler gave me a look of disapproval. I raised my eyes to his and groaned.
"I'm not really hungry." I replied lowly.
He pulled his chair close to mine and took the fork out of my hand. He raised a forkful of eggs to my mouth and watched me expectantly.
"Open." He ordered. I sighed and let him fed me.
"I can do it myself." I mumbled after swallowing.
The fork was placed back into my hand but he didn't move his position. He rested his chin in his hand and continued to watch me while I forced myself to finish my plate. When most of the meal was gone I dropped the fork and gave him a slight smile. "Happy?"
"Very." He grinned taking my plate away and placing it in the dishwasher.
"You're not working today?" I asked him.
"No. I'm going to take you somewhere." He told me.
"Where?" I questioned not really wanted to leave the house.
"It's a surprise, but you should get dressed." He responded smiling when he saw the annoyed look on my face.
"How am I supposed to get dressed when I don't know where we're going?" He rolled his eyes and muttered something about me being "such a girl."
"Normal clothes. Don't wear anything special." I nodded and made me way upstairs. I threw on a tank top and a pair of jean shorts. I only applied a quick coat of mascara and then left to join Tyler back downstairs. He was wearing a t shirt and basketball shorts so I figured what I was wearing was acceptable. Tyler looked up from his phone when he heard me enter the room and put it in his pocket.
"Ready?" He asked grabbing car keys.
"Yeah." I answered following him out into the garage.
He opened the door to the black SUV and shut it once I was inside. We drove in a comfortable silence and I did my best not to let my mind wander. After about 20 minutes of driving we were in the woods. I looked at Tyler giving him a strange look to which he merely smirked. After about 5 minutes Tyler stopped the car and got out. I followed his lead and he waited for me before walking straight.
"We're staying in the woods?" I finally asked hearing the hesitation in my voice.
"You're very impatient." Tyler told me with a raised eyebrow. I smiled and blushed.
We walked for a little longer when I looked up and saw a beautiful sight. There was a crystal blue lake with hanging trees around the border of it. Connected to the lake was a small cave that looked completely black inside. There were rocks all around and they were all unique and pretty colors. I felt Tyler looking at me, trying to see my reaction.
"It's incredible." I told him breathless. His face erupted in a huge smile that reached his eyes.
"I used to come here as a kid. My mom would take me without my dad knowing. He was a little overprotective but she thought I needed time out of the house. It's my favorite place on our territory." He told me.
I was happy he was sharing this place with me. It meant a lot to him and because of that I cared a lot about it too.
"Want to go in?" Tyler asked nodded to the lake. I nodded my head eagerly. I watched as he stripped down to his boxers and I felt self conscious.
"You should have told me to bring a bathing suit." I muttered.
"A bra and underwear is basically the same thing." He laughed before jumping into the lake. I groaned internally but took off my shorts. I took off my tank top and dipped my foot in the water. I jumped at the coldness and began to take a step back. Tyler quickly grabbed my hand and pulled me in to join him.
I yelped as I felt my body plummet towards the water. I was then engulfed in the water and quickly rose to the surface.
"Hey!" I splashed Tyler before wiping my hair back. He pulled me towards him and I tried to swim away.
"Stop fidgeting." He laughed wrapping him arms around my waist. I wrapped my legs around his waist and he held my weight with ease.
"You're lucky you're attractive." I told him tilting my head. He rolled his eyes and I leaned in to kiss him. He was distracted by my lips on his and I was able to break free of his hold.
I quickly swam away from him and it took him a second to realize what I had done.
"Cute." He said sarcastically. I continued to swim towards the cave and heard him swimming after me. When I reached the cave I studied the rock that seemed to glisten in the sunlight. I stared at the darkness inside of the cave.
"It's so dark in there." I spoke as I felt Tyler's chest against my back.
"It's a cave." He replied smartly.
"Really I had no idea!" I exclaimed turning myself to face him.
He opened his mouth in an attempt to respond when he suddenly became alert. I knew it was a mind link.
"What happened?" I asked when he finally snapped out of it.
"We need to go." He grabbed me and made me hold is shoulders while he swam back to the opening of the lake. He pulled me with him back to the car and handed me my clothes. As soon as we were both in the car he quickly sped off.
"Tyler you're making me nervous." My voice shook thinking of all the possibilities of what could have happened.
"There's a trespasser." He finally told me. I let out a sigh of relief.
"So? It's probably just someone passing through." I tried to look at the best case scenario.
"It's someone from crescent." He answered in a hard tone. I decided it was best to remain quiet for the rest of the ride.
Why would someone from crescent come here when they were already on thin ice? The only reason I could think of was that they were scoping out the competition.
The ride went much quicker than before but that was just because of Tyler's speeding. We pulled up to the prison and guards walked towards us when we go out of the car.
"Take her home and call John." He ordered and I quickly panicked.
"No! I want to be here for this!" I protested. Tyler's eyes shot to mine and he seemed to be thinking hard.
"Fine. We don't have time for this." He grabbed my hand and pulled me along with him down the steps and into the prison. We walked down the thin hallway and stopped in front of a solid door.
"Don't do anything stupid in there." Tyler warned making me roll my eyes.
He opened the heavy door and I braced myself for what I would see. There was a man cuffed to a chair with silver handcuffs and I smelled his blood as soon as I entered the room. Logan looked up as we entered.
"He won't talk." He told Tyler and his eyes shifted to meet mine. I focused back on the man who had his head hanging low. The realization came at me in full force and hit me like a ton of bricks. I knew that shaggy hair and I knew the familiar body shape. My breath caught in my throat and I couldn't control my anger at what they had done to him.
"Connor?" I questioned making his eyes snap to mine.
