*Phil’s POV*
It was about 11 pm whenI came home from the airport and got my key out of my pocket to unlock the front door of our apartment. Dan didn’t pick me up, but that was fine, as no one really knew what time the plane would land, and it was a fact he would see me when I came home, even if it was this ‘late’. I knew Dan normally went to bed at about 3 am, so he would definitely be awake at this hour of the day.
I entered the apartment and pulled my suitcase in. The nearest room where Dan could be was the living room, so I went in to look for him. But Dan wasn’t there, so I thought he would be in his bedroom upstairs, probably behind his laptop.
I picked up my suitcase and went upstairs. The door was locked, so I couldn’t see if he was in there, but I could see the darkness in my bedroom, as its door was opened a bit. I knocked on Dan’s door, but instead of Dan’s, mine opened.
A pale, thin Dan came out. His eyes were empty black holes, and it was as if I saw his sad feeling heart through them.
‘Oh God, Dan! What happened?!’ I slightly screamed and dropped my suitcase as I saw this monstrous pale man standing in front of me.
I hurried over to Dan, held his shoulder and looked into his deep laying eyes. But he didn’t answer my question, he only stared back.
‘Come on Dan, I know there’s something wrong,’ I said as he didn’t respond. His lips started to vibrate, but there were no tears.
‘Do you need a hug?’ I said, as I already put my arms over his arms to his back, pulling him into a hug.
First, he just stood there, but as I began to rub little circles on his back, he broke.
I felt his cold body make a little crack and he started to shock. He started to sob into the air next to my head, and as I pulled him even closer, I finally felt his hands around my waist. I put one hand on the back of his head, and led his head down to my shoulder.
He grabbed my shirt with his hands as if he never would let go. It didn’t hurt, but I was afraid he would pull it apart.
My t-shirt went from dry to wet and from wet to sodden. I felt like I would drown in Dan’s tears. I had never seen Dan crying, so I was pretty shocked by seeing him like this.
Dan was crying irregularly into my neck as I was rocking us back- and forwards. It didn’t really calm him down, so I slowly started to lead him back into my room. I wondered what he was doing in there, as it was dark when I came upstairs.
I turned on the lights and saw a disorder of my and his clothes and his electronic stuff on the floor, and my duvet which looked as if he had fought with it.
I set us down on the end of the bed, and he sunk into my chest. It was like there was no end to find in the tears and I bent myself a bit over him, so my head rested on his upper back. This was really uncomfortable, so I set back up and continued rubbing his back. We rarely hugged. Why should we? If there was something, Dan mostly just lay down in the hallway, and I better didn't dare touch him.
‘Shh… Dan, it’s alright, I’m here now,’ I whispered. He finally went calm and let go a bit of my shirt. As I tried to turn his face up to mine, I saw his eyes, puffy and bloodshot, even though I thought he didn’t have any more tears left before he started crying.
‘What’s going on Dan? Why are you crying? What happened?’ I knew I shouldn’t ask this much questions, but I needed answers.
First I thought it was starting all over again, but he pulled himself back into my arms and stuttered into my ear.
‘I-I… I ju-ust m-missed y-ou…’
