Serafina was nervous, anxious, and excited to see the supernatural world. She was curious and happy to show her little family these other beings as well. But that worried her, too, because then these other creatures would know who they were. She debated whether to let them stay at all and slightly regretted having said anything about the meeting. She would constantly go back and forth, weighing the pros and cons.
The only solace she had was knowing that these unknown beings were coming onto her territory, giving her the homecourt advantage. It didn't hurt that Morgana had called in the cavalry, and the town had been overrun with witches. That also made her more at ease with their situation.
She had warned the council, who concocted a story to tell the citizens in town so they wouldn't be suspicious about the influx of strangers. An excuse was made. The town was to host an assortment of Hollywood types who were trying to see if it was suitable for filming. The local town news had even mentioned it and explained the need to minimize activity near the town center to allow the new guests a proper view. Meaning the police would also close off the area and ensure that civilian entry was tightly regulated.
While Carlisle and Esme wanted to see these other creatures, Morgana didn't think it was a good idea. She suspected the Volturi would see it as Carlisle showing his strength and leadership by standing on the world stage of their supernatural world, which they might see as a challenge. He had no ability, no standing among the world's vampires, and therefore had no reason to be there. The only one they wouldn't complain about would be Serafina. Even that was only because they couldn't say anything about it. Her power spoke volumes. Serafina was surprised, though, when Morgana asked two of her siblings to sit in as well, saying she should claim them as her family's bodyguards.
On the day of the meeting, the town center was deserted. All nearby businesses were closed. Serafina was called in early by the witch and sat at the head of the table. Her wife and daughter sat in her special throne-like seat in the back corner, with Jasper and Alice flanking them.
"Why are they here again?" Serafina asked, gesturing toward her family.
"Rude," Alice said while kneeling to draw with Valerie.
Jasper only smiled while watching the two sit beside Rosalie. He wasn't offended by Serafina's question. He was pretty sure he knew why they were there. He suspected it was because of their abilities. For once, he was grateful to have them. Because if it helped him keep his family safe, he was more than willing to endure the added emotional strain.
"You haven't figured it out?" Morgana asked.
"Babe, it's because of their abilities," Rosalie stated as a matter of fact.
Morgana knew Rosalie would figure it out. She was very sharp after all. She gave her a nod of agreement, and Rosalie gave her a grin before turning her attention back to her daughter.
"Your wife gets it. Have you figured it out yet?" Morgana asked. Seeing Serafina's vacant expression, she began to become annoyed.
"I'll be able to tell if any trouble is brewin' beneath the surface. And if needed, I should be able to calm the situation as well," Jasper explained.
