The house was empty for once as Serafina sat alone in her living room. Edward's small family had gone traveling together. Emmett returned to Forks to be with Leah and help the shifters acclimate to his presence. Jasper and Alice had gone to visit Peter and Charlotte. Carlisle was currently working. And Rosalie, Esme, and Valerie were shopping in town. The only reason Serafina wasn't with them was that she felt like something was wrong. She wasn't sure what. But she was becoming increasingly agitated at the feeling that she was getting. She sent Rika with them as protection.
Suddenly, there was a knock on her door.
"It's open," she said. Knowing that it was the witch who should be able to hear her.
"Something is wrong," Morgana said as she marched into the living room.
"I know," Serafina agreed, "But it's not here yet."
"What?" Morgana asked as she approached Serafina. She noticed the brunette was unusually tense in her seat with her brows furrowed. She couldn't help but approach her slowly, "Your senses are still increased without Paprika's help?" she questioned.
"I'm still a vampire; the senses are going to be better than a human's," Serafina noted.
"Yes, but I don't think your family noticed. I saw them happily going from shop to shop in town. They aren't being affected by whatever this is," Morgana countered as she began to pace, "What is it?" she grumbled to herself.
"It's coming towards town," Serafina said as she stood.
Morgana looked at Serafina in wonder. She suspected the vampire was able to sense this presence because of her connection to the town in general. The vampire had lived there for a long time, guarding her territory. Protecting it from danger. Was danger approaching?
She recalled the Volturi's first gaining control of Volterra. They were constantly monitoring the comings and goings of all supernatural presences in their city. As the town grew, they added more members. With more members, the three kings' slackened and eventually relinquished their advanced senses for monitoring. Relying on their subordinates to protect their city in their stead.
Serafina didn't do that. If anything, she became more possessive of her town as it began to expand. She always wanted to know what was happening and who was coming and going. She spoke to the council constantly, even when away. Guardian's Grace was just as secure as Volterra; it only lacked the manpower to defend it from all sides. Though Morgana suspected Serafina wasn't beneath encircling the entire city in fire if she needed to. Once Morgana moved to town, she added to the city's defenses immediately to avoid that potential outcome.
"Where are you going?" Morgana asked as Serafina began to walk out of the home. She quickly gave chase and matched her pace, "What if it's dangerous? Why are you going toward the strange feeling?"
Serafina continued her walk, "It's not moving anymore. It's stopped outside of town." She mumbled.
Morgana had wards at the town's borders. The presence had triggered none. Did it know? How could it know about the wards? She quickly grabbed Serafina's arm to make her stop, "What do you mean it's not moving anymore? Whatever it is, it knows about the wards. It's not coming in. I can't know what it is unless it triggers the ward." She rambled.
