“Shh! James shut up you’re going to ruin it!” Sirius whispered angrily at James who was whispering the plan to Lily. At the moment the five of them were hiding behind the tapestry, waiting for unsuspecting teachers and students. Lunch was over and now students were milling about the corridors going nowhere in particular. A group of Hufflepuff’s passed the tapestry, laughing at a joke one of them told.
Sirius nodded toward Remus, who had his wand aimed at something near the ceiling, he flicked his wand a dungbomb flew at them and exploded at their feet causing its contents to splatter across their robes and faces, massive boils sprouting where it landed.
Quickly, Peter threw stink pellets for the lasting effect and they ran, leaving the poor Hufflepuff’s to stink up the corridor covered in boils.
“Was that-?”
“Bulbadox Powder? Yes.” Sirius laughed as they sprinted to their next location.
“Why would you ever put Bulbadox powder in a dungbomb? Why would you even have a dungbomb?” Lily asked not quite sure she liked what was going on.
“You’ll like this next one Lily. You can help us out.” Sirius turned and winked at her, a huge smile on his face. Peter chortled and almost tripped over the trick step while going down the stairs causing a loud uproar from James and Sirius.
“You always trip on that step Peter. It’s our Seventh year; shouldn’t you know where it is by now?” Peter grumbled and caught up to the four, his mouth pulled into a frown.
They made a long trek through the castle, careful to make it almost impossible to track them; they finally hid themselves in the mirror on the fourth floor.
“Alright Lily, you will cast the last spell in this one. James will go first, then Remus will do his and you can do the last one.”
“What’s the spell?” Lily asked warily as she looked from James to Remus then back to Sirius.
“Rictusempra, remember it. Now here is how we will do it. James you cast yours, Remus wait just a few moments, right to the point where he will almost call for help, then Lily, you cast yours.”
“Sirius, you genius you, I’m laughing already.” James commented. “Rictusempra, this will be a funny one. Alright look, here he is.” Lily looked out the mirror to see a Ravenclaw pass by, he was tall and had light blonde hair that was singed on the ends.
“This kid has been giving us trouble for the last two years.”
“Always dodges our pranks.”
“Ready James? Go!” Sirius whispered.
“Locomotor Mortis!” James half whispered, his wand aimed at the boy.
The boy stopped walking, and fell to his face, his legs locked together. He grunted loudly and growled at no one in particular. He pushed himself to his knees and turned his head in every direction, looking for someone to help.
“Someon-!” Remus cast the tongue-tying spell and the words that came out of the boy’s mouth were inaudible.
“Rictusempra.” Lily pointed her wand at the boy and watched as he started laughing uncontrollably, falling forward onto his face, his laughter, muffled by the tongue-tied curse. Peter burst into laughter and the rest of them followed.
“It sounds like he is choking over his laughter!!” Sirius cried, wiping tears from his eyes.
“Lily, you did a fantastic job! Look at him.” Lily, feeling a bit sorry for the chap, looked at him, and watched as he rolled on the floor, his legs stuck together, and his mouth wide open, mad laughter echoing around the corridor. Tears had started coming from eyes and Lily couldn’t help but smile.
Sirius crawled out of the mirror and they followed him, coming up the poor boy on the floor.
Quickly James undid the spells and they boy lay there, trying to control his laughter, wiping his tears. He looked up at them, and gave a weak smile.
“I will admit you got me this time, next time won’t be so easy.” The group laughed and they helped the Ravenclaw up. “Go get some Slytherin’s now alright? I heard about the Hufflepuff’s but I didn’t think you’d come for me next.” He stuck his hand out and shook each of their hands in turn.
“Who cast Rictusempra?” Lily raised her hand sheepishly, meeting the boys light gray eyes. “That was some amazing magic you did there. Made me cry, and I felt like I was about to wet myself.” Lily held back a laugh while James, Sirius, Remus, Peter and the boy smacked each other on their backs.
“I dare you to try and hex me sooner.” The boy challenged before going back on his way.
“Don’t worry we will.” James called down the corridor. The boy raised his hand in the air in acknowledgement, turned the corner and was gone.
The rest of the day was full of more and more pranks. Lily was surprised by how easily they had managed to escape, but by the end of the day was laughing out of exhaustion.
“Did you have fun today Lily?” James asked her as they walked back to the Gryffindor tower after dinner. Their hands were linked and the three boys left them for one last prank on Professor Slughorn.
“I did.” Lily smiled, “I never thought I would have had fun pulling pranks before, but I have to admit you guys made it fun.” James smiled down at her then pulled her behind the tapestry they were hiding in earlier. He leaned down and kissed her, his hand on either side of her face.
“I didn’t get to kiss you all day.” James commented with a pout. Lily laughed and brought her hand to her neck where the necklace sat just under the folds of her blouse. She looked up at him, a small smile on her face before stretching up to place another kiss on his lips.
