JOHNNY
Johnny sat on the porch watching the sun move from behind the mountain peeks and bathe everything in it's warm, soft glow, making his belly fill up with emotion and joy that he felt deep down in his soul. It was all so beautiful, the rays glittering against the lake, the sweet smell of sap and wood so early in the morning. He inhaled, trying to take it all in. He was brimming with excitement, jumping out of his skin because of this beautiful scenery and because of Ava. She was quite like the sun, he realizes now. Warm and graceful and consuming. The brightest, most beautiful thing he'd ever laid his eyes on.
Before he could even help himself, the shyest smile crept onto his face and he covered it behind his calloused palm as if someone might see him. Just as he was recovering from his momentary embarrassment, he heard stomping coming up to the door and immediately jumped to his feet. Whipping around, he found Sam bursting through the door, his face blusteringly red and his breathing heavy and labored. He looked furious and Johnny's heart rate immediately sped up. He reached his fist out and slammed it against the doorjamb, rattling the siding of the cabin and Johnny's stance immediately became defensive as he raised up his arms and balled his fists.
"You fucking did it again didn't you?" he sneered at him.
"What?" Johnny asked, all too familiar with where this was going but desperately trying to avoid it.
"You heard me, you sly bastard." Sam stepped towards him and he instinctually stepping back. "You did it again, just when I get close to her, you swoop in steal her away. You think you're so smooth, don't you? You think that just because you got her to change her mind about you that you actually get to have her? That she'll actually be yours? You don't deserve her Johnny, you and I both know that. You're a first class screw up who's only going to hurt her. So let's do this the easy way, call it all off and no one gets hurt...especially not Ava."
Johnny growled, blood coursing angrily through his veins. "Shut the fuck up Sam. These are real emotions and Ava is a real person. She isn't an object that just gets passed around. She is fucking in love with me and their isn't a single thing you can do to change that."
"Oh isn't that just adorable?" he leered, a taunting smile stretching over his face. "I made you break up with her once and I will do it again."
He wasn't sure who threw the first punch but before he knew it, it was a mess of fists and kicks and the two of them rolling about the porch at each other's throats. Johnny slammed his knuckles against Sam's nose, a loud crack slicing through the still air. And then as retaliation he dug his knee harshly into his ribs, causing him to double over in pain. Blood smeared his palms and face but he whipped it away, standing up again to face him. He was suddenly filling with unstoppable overwhelming rage that made him see red and feel like fire.
"Fuck you! Fuck you for ruining my life!" Johnny grunted, clipping Sam straight in the jaw, making him scream in pain. But he didn't stop, he pushed Sam to the ground, grounding his sneaker clad shoe into his stomach and chest until he was unable to breathe and when he felt Sean's strong arms grabbing at him to pull him away from Sam's limp body.
"Johnny stop, you're gonna kill him man!" he yelled, his eyes wide in horror and Johnny's own breath caught in his throat as he stared at the damage he'd done.
Just then, he heard a gasp from the door and turned to find Ava standing there. Tears in her eyes as she stared at Sam and back at him, the most accusing and revolting look in her eyes.
"Ava-" Johnny tried to say but the words were caught.
"I can't believe I thought you had changed," she choked, before turning away and disappearing into the house.
