Chapter 7
I awoke the next morning to the click of my door being opened. I sat up, knowing I would have to get up for school anyway.
“Oh, good morning sweetie,” My mom said breathlessly. My mother had the spirit of a tiger but sadly, not the immune system. She was often sick with a fever or common cold, but it never seemed to stop her from going to work and doing her job. Sometimes she seemed even too weak to get out of bed in the morning. Sheesh I wish she would give herself a break for once.
“Morning,” I mumble groggily. “What time is it?” My mom picked up the small clock on my bedside table and tossed it into my lap.
“You tell me.” She answered before walking away. Even that sickness couldn’t stop her from being a smart ass. I roll my eyes and hold up the clock.7:20 I only had twenty minutes!
It was at this moment I realized Cameron was walking me to school, and that I had to be ready by 7:45. I jumped out of bed and ran to the bathroom to get myself cleaned up as fast as possible. After a few minutes, I ran out and back into my room to find what clean clothes I could find. I settled with a black sweatshirt and a pair of blue skinny jeans I found at the bottom of my dresser. I threw everything on, picked up my shoes and stared down the stairs. My phone.
“Uggghh,” I whimpered as I climbed back up the stairs to grab my phone from its charger. I go back downstairs and to the kitchen to get some toast.
“Mom, couldn’t you have woken me up just-“I stopped, realizing she wasn’t even listening to me. She was talking to someone at the table, sounding like a flirty high school girl. God damn it. How did Cameron get here so fast?! He took notice to me and smiled a little.
“Morning little girl.” He thought to himself. I narrow my eyes at him and blush. I lean against the doorway and cross my arms, watching them talk about who knows what. I must have waited only a minute before I heard Cameron get up and thank my mother for the chat. He walks past me and out into the living room waiting for me. I turn back to my mother, a childish grin spread across her face.
“Oh my Adriana, was that you boyfriend?” She squealed in delight.
“Shh, mom, you’re being too loud, he’ll hear you!” I said through grit teeth. “Too late, I can hear you perfectly.” I tense up. God damn it. I must not have heard him come up behind me, because it scared me when he placed his hands on my shoulders.
“Actually, I am.” Cameron said, an obvious smile on his face. I elbow him hard in the stomach. I don’t think it did much damage, but he played along anyway.
“Ouch that hurt,” he said cowering back. I glared at him.
“We are not a thing Cameron.” My mom squealed so high, I was sure during that very moment, she was 5 years old receiving a brand new Barbie doll.
“You two are so cute! If you were a couple, I would definitely approve of it.” She said with a wink. My eyes widened in horror.
“Mom!” I shrieked. I heard both Cameron and my mother giggle at my outburst. “Can we just go now?” I ask turning to Cameron. He looked back at me with joyful eyes.
“Yeah I guess so.” My mother sighed.
“So soon? Ah well, you do have school, have fun you two.” My mom smiled and left to get Anders ready for daycare. I walk into the living room to grab my backpack. Cameron followed my out the door, and soon as it closed asked
“Am I really that bad a person? You won’t even consider being my girlfriend?” I looked up at him, and as normal, his eyes were filled with glee, although his face was stretched into a childish pout. I smirk
“Not a chance. Besides, the whole school would have a mental breakdown if they found out you were going out with me.” Even my own words stung, but it was the truth.
“That’s a shame. I’d really love to see all the girls have an anxiety attack.” We both laugh at this. That’s true. Cameron’s fangirls were definitely a sight to see. They all shoved each other just to get a glimpse of him. To me, that was quite sad. But girls will be girls.
“Oh my god, there’s Cameron! Wait who’s that with him..? Oh. My. God. He’s with Andrea! Are they together now?! The sounds of thoughts and actually shrieks of despair mixed together as I realized how dangerous it was for me to be seen with Cameron.
“Hey, are they bothering you?” Cameron asks as I awoke from my own thoughts. I look up and don’t really reply to him. He looks at me, eyes losing all the mischief that was once there.
“Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it.” His sudden words and hard tone sent a shock of nervousness into me. What would he do?
I’m scared to find out.
