Chapter 6
“Is this your house?!” Katrina asked awe struck. I watched as she oooed and ahhed at my house. It really wasn’t anything special, but kids will be kids.
“Mhm, this is my house, make sure to take off your shoes, okay?” Katrina kicked off her shoes, not even looking down, and began to walk around the house. Anders followed after her as if he wanted to act like he’s never seen the place either. Hm I think somebody has a crush on Katrina and doesn’t know it yet… Cameron put a tight grip on my shoulder and said
“Thanks for letting us chill here for a bit. My mom said she’ll pick us up in a little bit. Cool with you?” I thought if they stayed here too long, my mom would soon meet them and that’ll just be… well and embarrassing mess. She’s never seen me bring friends over so this is new for her.
“Yea it should be fine,” I answered at last. Cameron nodded his head and went to find where the kids had run off too. I decided to follow since I didn’t really have anything to do.
As we walked through the hallways I heard something Cameron was thinking about
‘Hey Adi, if you hear this, pull on my sleeve’. I looked up at Cameron and his expression read as if he thought nothing. He’s testing me huh? What should I do? I reach my hand forward hesitating at first. But I reach out anyway and grab his sleeve rather forcefully. I immediately let go, oh no that was wrong pulled him too hard.
Cameron twisted his head toward me and I saw the slight curve of a smile form on his lips. I blushed and let my hands naturally fall to my sides. I kept my head down as he looked away shielding my red face from his eyes. After a minute more of looking for my brother and Katrina, we found them in the living room staring blankly at the kid show they were watching. Wow that didn’t take long at all.
I look over at Cameron and he just shrugged “Katrina doesn’t watch much TV at home” I heard him think. I nodded my head and turned back to them just sitting there.
“Hey Cameron? Do we have homework today?” I asked casually. Cameron looked up to the ceiling as if thinking to himself.
“Uhhh, nope I don’t think so.” I did an internal sigh of relief I was free for a day. For once we weren’t bombarded with homework like usual. What would I do instead? I’ve never had a day free of homework before, it was weird. The sound of the doorbell shook me out of my reverie.
“I’ll get it.” I told Cameron who, instead of listening to me, had directed all of his attention to the TV. Three brainless zombies. As I opened the door, I was greeted by a woman. She had shimmering brown hair and brown eyes to match. Her heart shaped face smiled at me with intense bluish green eyes.
“Hi, are you Adriana?” She asked me sweetly. I looked up at her and smiled a little and replied
“Oh, yea, that’s me. You must be Cameron’s mother right?” She laughed softly
“Yes, that me, but you can call me Candice. May I come in?” I blushed as I realized I was making her stand outside.
“A-ah come in, I’m sorry, I’m not used to having visitors around…” I said as she walked into the house. As we stood in the foray chatting about the weather I heard footsteps come down the hallway.
“Hey Adi, who was- Oh hey mom!” Cameron realized as he walked toward us. Candice smiled at the sight of her son walked toward him. I thought they were gonna talk or something so I went to go get Katrina.
As I walked toward the living room I thought I heard “Don’t leave.” But it must’ve been my imagination. As I stood in the doorway of the living room, I watched Anders and Katrina giggling at whatever they were watching. I smiled and walked over.
