Chapter 4

"No! That can't be. I'm not a werewolf. I'm a high school student, I'm normal, like everyone else." I spoke with confidence but I wasn't sure anymore. I could hear things I shouldn't hear, I ran faster than I could, and I smelled things that weren't even near. I know they're right but I just can't come to terms with this kind of thing.

Jay stood up and stepped in front of me, he grabbed my shoulders and looked deep in my eyes. He looked so deep it felt like my eyes were the doorway to my soul. Like he could feel everything I felt. "You have to listen to us. You're a wolf now well you're technically a wolf-ling until you feed."

With a confused expression and tone I just had to ask. "Wait, wait, what? Feed? No one ever said anything about feeding. What do I 'feed' on?"

Jay had to answer sarcastically which wasn't very surprising. "Well what would they eat? Humans duh!"

Nikki defended me before I could reply to his stupidity. "Quit being so sarcastic! Anyway, you're not going to phase into a wolf until you eat a human. Right now you are half human half wolf which we call a wolf-ling. You have to eat a human because if you don't your soul will die out and you will no longer control your body, instead you will turn like the wolf that bit you."

"I don't want this life. I don't want to eat a person. I just want to live my freaking normal cliche life." I broke down in front of total strangers. I cried and pouted and whined but nothing would ever change me back. When I finally stopped crying I took the first chance I had to speak. "I'm going to find him. I'm going to find him and when I do, oh, I'm gonna kill him. He's gonna regret he ever made me into this thing." My eyes were filled with pure hatred. I found the confidence in me to follow through with my training. "I'll go to your house, I'll do my training, but when it's time to take care of this guy that changed me I call dibs."

"Alright, now that's what I'm talkin' about! Woo-hoo!" Jay yelled at the top of his lungs. "So should she ride in the car or get used to her running?" He directed the question towards Nikki.

She looked me up and down and circled me once or twice before she answered. "I think she should get used to her running. We'll start her training here. Get in the car and wait for my signal."

Jay turned and started towards the car. Suddenly he turned around and spoke. "Uh yeah so um what's the signal again?" Nikki shook her head in disappointment.

"Ugh! I'll just call you and tell you when to start driving. Goodness gracious." He muttered something under his breath that I couldn't quite decipher. "You mind saying that a little louder so we can hear you?" When he didn't answer she knew that was the end of it. "That's what I thought you said."

Jay continued to walk to the car and when he did he plopped himself in the drivers side. Nikki started to talk again. "To phase on contact all you have to do is think about bad memories or thoughts. Now close your eyes and think real hard about that."

I closed my eyes and thought real hard but I didn't feel anything. All I had to do was concentrate but that was the hardest thing I'd ever had to do. "Im trying and it's not working!" I was getting frustrated and annoyed. I kept thinking about bad times I had. I thought about when dad left us and I started to mess up. The days that were hard in my life. I was drinking and always had an attitude. When I cried myself to sleep every night. Those times lasted a year and that whole year was terrible. I got deeper into detail and my fingertips started to hurt a familiar pain.

Nikki's voice interrupted my thoughts. "You did it. Whatever you thought of worked!" She laughed and jumped with joy. She hugged me and started to talk again. "You did it on your first try. It took me about four tries and between you and me, it took Jay ten times." When I opened my eyes I looked down at my hands. Familiar claws hung out my fingers and hair was on the back of my hands. I scrunched my face into a disgusted expression and quickly grabbed my phone out of my back pocket. I looked at my reflection and noticed my eyes were yellow and I had hairy sideburn things.
