A/N: One word. Finale. Oh my goodness! I watched it on Sunday. Whoa. Anyone else??

They both lay contentedly side by side on the narrow hospital bed. It was late into the night, almost morning and soon the duo have to get up and attend to their 2nd Mass duties. Well, Ben would. On Anne's orders, River was to stay in bed a few more days for observation and recovery purposes.

However until such a time, they could just enjoy their rare moment of normality and be together as just Ben and River, not survivors of an alien invasion.

She was curled up against his chest, listening to his steady heartbeat. Gazing up at her more-than-a-friend, she smiled. His head was leant on the chrome metal and discoloured white headboard.

The more she observed him, the more River noticed how peaceful he looked. Gone was the hint of unsurity that always played on his soft lips. There was no frown upon his brown, no tears in his eyes and no grimace upon his features. No, now he looked peaceful, like he was free of his demons.

Oh how she longed to know what he dreamed about. River wondered if he was reliving a childhood memory, one where his Mother was still alive and where he was still part of a normal world. Unlike present day, where he felt felt alone and a freak. He was not alone though. Not any more, he had her. River was now part of his family. His joy and he, hers. They both needed someone in their lives and now they had each other.

Grinning further at that thought, River reached up and placed a gentle kiss upon the handsome male's jaw, wondering how life could have been so kind to her where Ben was concerned.

Unfortunately, their happiness was not going to last. This is life and life does not always provide you with what you desire. No, their own personal battle was yet to begin...
