I freeze and squint, peering through the darkness of the living room. I could see the faint outline of a person, a girl, heading silently in my direction. Sammy. I sneak quietly behind her, trying to keep out of the faint light seeping under a door somewhere. "Boo" I whisper in Sammy's ear. She screams as I laugh. The lights are switched on and I swing around to see mum at the light switch. "Now Alyson, that wasn't very nice," my mum lectures me. I notice a glint in her green eyes. I think Sammy noticed too because she burst out laughing and mum joins in. I laugh too. BANG. The front door closed and dad walked into the room. "Hey, girls" he says. "Hello," Sammy and I say in perfect sync. She bursts out giggling.

I hurry upstairs to my bedroom where I had heard a ping of an incoming message on my phone. Dear Alyson, happy holidays! I'm going to France tomorrow and I can't wait! I wish you were coming too    :'( . See you soon, Gabbi. I smile. I wish I were going to Gabbi, I thought. "Alyson!" dad calls. "coming" I reply with a yell. I hurrry down the stairs to the kitchen, leaving my phone on my bed. "yes dad?" I ask. "We're going to the beach the day after tomorrow," my dad says to me. "Sweet!" I reply with enthusiam. " What's the fuss about?" mum asks while walking into the room. I reply merrily, "We're going to the beach, we're going to the beach. Hey mum are you coming?" I look at her quizically. "No honey. I need to stay and look after Sammy" she responds. "Oh" is all I can think of saying. "So just us two then."

*Next day*

I sleep till 11 am and wake to my shoulder being roughly shaken. I groan and bury my head under the pillow. "You don't want to miss going to the pool", a voice says. The pool?, I thought. "Okay", I say out loud. I pull my swimsuit out of the wardrobe and stuff it into my swim bag with my towel. When mum had left, that's who the voice belonged to, I got changed into a green t-shirt and a loose pair of jeans. I put my blonde hair in a ponytail and watched the bright, blue eyes in the mirror for a few moments. This is a suprise, I thought happily. Then I raced down the stairs, dumping bag in front of the front door and went into the kitchen for some breakfast.

As I golf down some toast, my dad fills me in on some important information I'm not listening to. "Just remember, I'm going to be there at all times, whether in the pool or out. Alyson? ALYSON WERE YOU LISTENING?" my dad asks loudly, snapping me out of my daze. "Y-Yes dad I was listening", I fib. "Okay then tell me what was the first thing I said," my dad says, looking frustrated. "Uhh... the first thing you said was to..." I started. "Just let her be Marlon," mum interrupted. I shot her a grateful glance.

It's beach day and a perfect day for it too. Sunny, warm, and would be a good day for a splash at the beach. We pack our swim stuff and put out surfboards on the roof of the car. "Bye!" I yell out the window to Sammy and mum as we drive away.

"So what is the beach called?" I asked while searching for something to talk about. It was a moment before he replied. "Masodo beach." "Masodo beach?" I repeated, "where's that?" "Masodo beach is next to Masodo city, that's why it's called Masodo," dad replied to my question.
