Chase: A Dragon's Tale

Chapter 8 - Welcome!

Alyson's POV

We are sitting around the campfire, wishing for sleeping bags. We were out in the middle of nowhere. When I say nowhere I mean it. We really need to take Kye to the Hospice, I tell Chase. What is this hospice you mention?, Chase asked. It's the hospital, I reply. Oh right, Chase replies. "We need to go to the hospital" I say to Kye out loud so he can hear. "No, We go to Manduranger hill, they can fix me up there" he refuses. "Okay then, how far away is it?" I ask him. "Uhhh..." he says.

Chase is suddennly still, and begins to growl. I freeze in my pacing and look aruond wildly. Crack. I herd a twig snap. "We need to get out of here!" I yelled. I saw someone jump out of the shadows and tackle me. I punched and kicked but to no avail. The man held me by the throat, not hard enough to kill but enough to make it hard to breathe. I clawed at his hand, strugglingto get away. I heard laughing in the background. Kye was laughing.

"Let her go," he said. "Kye? Is that really you?" the man holding me asked. "Yep," Kye replied. He nodded to me, signaling me to say the words he told me. I struggled to remember. " 'Chase the dragon, Alyson the rider, we wish long life upon you," I managed to get out. Instantly his grip on my throat loosened, allowing me to breathe normally. "Who told you this? Did Kye?" "Yes" I say, before the man let me go completely. "Follow me," the strange man said.

"Wait" I called. "What?" he said irritability. "He can't walk," I replied gesturing to Kye. The man walked back and helped Kye to his feet.

"What happened man?" the stranger asked Kye. "You know, the usual," Kye replies with a smirk. "Let me guess, that dad of yours?" Kye sighed not answering. I took this opportunity to interrupt. "Sorry but, I never caugt your name..." I queried. "Its Zach". "Well, a pleasure to meet you Zach". He didn't answer bt instead said, "nearly there now, just hold on for a bit Kye". "I've been 'holding on' for ages Zach. I think I can last till we get there".

We walk up to a tree. "Well? What now?" I ask. Zach hands Kye off to me and walks tp the side of the tree. I notice a weird shape in the bark and realize that it is a keypad. It looks like a keypad of some type,Chase says repeating my thoughts out loud so everyone can hear. Zach looked surprised for a second before saying, "Indeed dragon". "Why does it look like wood through?" I asked, curious. Kye answered, "To blend in. It is a secret base you know." Chase snorted in glee earning himself a gentle smack to the head.

Zach typed something in the keypad and stepped back. There was a grumblig noise and the hill next to the tree opened up. I stood there in amazement. "Welcome to our base of operations, Missing Links," Zach said.

I don't know where the inspiration came from but it arrived! I am sorry its short! As with one of my other chapters it was a perfectly predictable ending and I just had to make it so. Also I really wanted to deliver something to you guys!
