This time when he walked in, he was silent.
" Coffee? " I asked, but he shook his head rapidly. He had a black envelope in his hand. And purple umbrella nearly carved, yet printed into the front of it. He chuckled darkly.
" I know you... don't want to hear me give you another business offer. But you could be at least kind enough to take this invitation. " he held out the envelope towards me and smiled. " And, yes, coffee. With extra sugar. " I took the envelope slowly, his hand brushing mine. I faked a smile, then went to the back to pour his coffee.
" What's the occasion? " I asked, coming back with the cup in my hand, invitation in the other. I handed him the coffee as he started to speak.
" Well, I decided since you've never been to Oswald's and since you're a bit... " he paused then laughed. " unaware of how great of an opportunity it could be for you...maybe letting you see it from a another person's perspective would help influence your decision. In a good way, of course. " I looked closer at the invitation, opening it up. The message was written out, big and in bold
You have been formally invited to Oswald's nightclub for a party, thrown for a hopefully, future waitress.
" I'll pick you up, tomorrow. At this time. " he spoke, making me look back up at him. A hopeful smile spread across his face. " I mean, it's not like you'll have any work to do. Ask for the day off. "
