Winter's Daughter

In a world of frozen hearts

If you had to pick the coldest

The Winter's Daughter is where you'd start

The ancient one; the oldest

The icy queen of winter's age?

To you nothing would she say

Just draw you into a frozen cage

That's how she traps her prey.

On you she'd fix her gaze of ice

The stare no man resists

She'll capture your heart and spear it thrice

And give you one last kiss.

A menace all must see her

A monster to mortal eyes

An immortal beast cloaked in snow-white fur

She's the witch they most despise

But what if she's no menace?

No more harmless than a fly?

A mere woman stripped of grace

And thrown aside to die?

What if she had a family?

A great nephew or two?

They would strip her of her dignity

That's it, she's through.

So, what if it's just a rumour?

Brought to light through mundane fear

Sprinkled with a touch of humour?

Now who's the killer here?
