IT TAKES APRIL four days to get back to Colin. He'd forgotten that they actually have each other's phone numbers until she texts him one morning, and he jerks awake. It's, like, five a.m. and Colin was actually supposed to get up at this time, anyway, to go for a run, but he was planning on skipping it. Now he's awake, though, so he's angry and kind of obligated to go on a terrible run he will regret the entire way.

    Rubbing a hand down his tired face, Colin flops onto his stomach and picks up the phone, squinting at it through blurry eyes. He's used contacts since the summer after ninth grade, so he doesn't know where his glasses are. He struggles to read the words. They worked on some Lang project together sophomore year, and apparently neither of them had deleted the phone numbers, because the text comes from Cho the Bad Ass Bitch.

    It's a link, and when he clicks on it, a document pops up, titled "How to Get Julie Barnes," with all the caps and everything. Colin isn't as angry anymore, and sits up with only a little struggle, comforter bunching up at his waist.

HOW TO GET JULIE BARNES

1. FLIRT: flirt a little! sometimes, girls unwittingly flirt back and have no idea how, or that they're doing it, but julie seems like the type of person who knows if she flirts back, so GOOD 4 U D'LACEY!!!! u sure know how to pick em

2. TIME: spend more time with her! how the fuck is she supposed to think u like her if u don't care enough to talk to her outside of school and shit. get to know her outside of controlled environments. and as long as ur there, might as well get some (only kidding. don't you fucking dare make her do something she doesn't want to do, d'lacey.)

3. THINGS: no matter what people say, everybody is just a little materialistic in some way. except maybe like gandhi or something. buy her things, make her stuff, show her that u were thinking of her at some point in the day.

4. TALK: talk to her about her interests. when u say u'll check out a band, check them out. then u'll have more common ground. and more to talk about the next day. take an interest in her and her interests!

5. BE SURE: ARE YOU SURE SHE LIKES YOU?
