2. NEIGHBOR WAR
On a night like any other, darkness veiled the land,
And, inside of his home,
Young Benjamin lay wide awake in bed,
The phantom sounds of the television echoing inside his head.
All of a sudden, he did hear,
The loud munching of a lawn mower.
His old neighbor, Mr. Douglas was at it again,
Cutting his lawn at 11 P.M.
Benjamin rushed out with his iPod full of music,
“I’ve had enough of your loud noises!”
In the middle of the night, a war woke up the town,
It was a neighbor war of loud, preposterous sound.
iPods and gramophones, televisions and many a game,
Even Mr. Douglas couldn’t stand the “Harlem Shake”.
The two neighbors went at it until their front yards were full,
And that’s when their guardians got all parental.
Benjamin’s parents and Mr. Douglas’ wife,
Stood on their porches looking at the big fight.
And fuming they were by the tone of their voices,
They sent the two packing to go back to their houses.
The next afternoon, the two decided to chat,
And Benjamin and Mr. Douglas ended up shaking hands.
The two were good friends after that day,
Until five months later, when Mr. Douglas passed away.
