November 25
The gardens up in the Watchtower looked so serene. The flock of birds chirped happily along, unaware of the pressure on their observers. Batman stood watching over them, ears tuned in on Superman's approach. Without a single greeting, the two men stood side by side. "Have you changed your mind?" The Kryptonian asked as his eyes followed the flock of birds on the move.
"No."
Clark sighed, "Neither have I." Standing in relative silence, neither dared speak as the tension between the two remained in the cold war they were faring. Not that it was any different than the other cold war between Batman and the other Leaguers. But who was he to keep track of such trivial things. For as much beef as the man had with others, he held too much respect for it to impact his work too much.
Approaching the pair, Wonderwoman also made her presence known. "Times like these, one feels the very weight of the world upon us." As annoying as it was, she was right. There was an immense weight on their shoulders, more so than usual. At least this time, there was no emergency calling upon the meeting.
Bare footsteps echoed on the granite as Aquaman approached as well. "Everyone is here."
Wonderwoman clasped a hand on both her co-leader's shoulders. "And so it begins." She mused before turning on her heel and led her fellow heroes into the meeting hall. Closing all the shutters on every oversized window and door, the heroes locked themselves up.
All eyes were on the quartet as they each addressed the group. "Our agenda is clear. What's at stake should not be underestimated." Aquaman spoke first, leaving the rest of the word to the others.
Superman looked between his colleagues, the lingering distrust still readable. "The decisions we make today will reverberate for years to come."
"And influence whether or not the world continues to put their trust in the Justice League." Wonderwoman finished off for her friend.
"Please, take your seats. We have work to do." Though short, and far from encouraging, Batman's words were still the ones holding the most weight. Listening without delay, everybody took their seats. The U shaped table was filled in seconds as they fell into their regular spots. Notably, Manhunter and Captain Marvel decided to flank Batman at the bend in the table as the room had split themselves before they had started.
Taking the attention on himself rather than the elephant in the room, J'onn addressed all. "Another expansion of the League could generate hostilities from our enemies. No one needs, or wants, another Injustice League." The group who had set everything in motion still left a bitter taste in their mouths. The uncreative name even more so as it felt like a tarnish to their branding.
"Point taken." Superman spoke up, remaining seated as J'onn settled back into his chair. "But the option remains to vote no on all candidates. So," pushing a few buttons on his screen, he pulled up a hologram in the center. "I nominate Icon for League membership."
Across the table, Green Arrow scoffed. "Why? Because you suspect Icon might be Kryptonian like you did with Captain Marvel?" All eyes tracked to the champion of magic as he beamed at the information.
"You thought I was Kryptonian? Cool...I think?" The shine in his eyes dulled rather quickly after. The notion of Clark looking for other Kryptonians but turning away the boy hand delivered to his doorstep made him feel icky on Conner's behalf.
Before the mood could sour even more, Wonderwoman spoke up. "Icon interests me also." She reassured her friend, the grateful look rewarding her efforts. Focusing back on the issue at hand, she pulled up a new hologram. "As does his protégé, Rocket. Athena knows the league could use more female members."
