so rn im on a vacation to visit some family. im staying with my aunt and 2 cousins but my uncle isn't there, he's in the hospital.

my uncle has dementia and his memory is degrading rapidly. he doesn't remember simple things and isn't acting like himself.

my mom, sister, and i went to visit him yesterday with my aunt and at first we couldn't even recognize him. he lost so much weight and hair that he doesn't look like himself anymore. he hardly talks and when he does, it's very words. he didn't even recognize us.

my aunt sat on his bed beside him and took his hand in hers. since the moment we came into the room, his eyes didn't leave her. he didn't acknowledge anyone else talking to him but her.

when his nurse came in the first thing he said to her was "this is my beautiful wife". my aunt asked him how many years they were married and he said "39 years", which is true. he constantly reminded the nurse and us that my aunt is his beautiful wife.

even though most of his memories are gone he still recognizes my aunt as his wife and how beautiful she is. the look in his eyes showed how much he adored her and how much he loved her.

this is true love.
