After Philosophy was Religion, in room 10B. As I passed upon my locker and got my textbooks, I started checking my requirements for Religion as to avoid what happened earlier. Oh God, I wish I don’t bump into Rey. Damn guy giving me bad luck.

I saw Daryl with bandages on his face and a neck brace. Nice, I really did dislocate his jaw. He squirmed after seeing me and I kept my happiness to myself. I wonder why they didn’t call me to the Principal’s office. Hmm. I know they hate Daryl’s guts and he was a pain in this school. Maybe that’s why they let me be. I’m laughing hysterically inside.

And then instantly as if the universe just heard me, poof!

I bumped unto Rey while he’s coming out of room 10C; Advance Algebra and Trigonometry.

Well, thank you universe for reversing my wishes.

“Oh, Sylvia!” he saw me as I hasten to enter room 10B.

“Oh, ha-ha” I gave out a nervous laugh. “Didn’t see you there.”  I lied.

“Funny how we coincidentally bump to each other!” he said as if he was counting on it.

Yeah, funny.

“Oh, your essay on Philosophy fell earlier while you were scurrying off. I called for you but it’s like you didn’t hear me and walked faster.” He looked at me skeptically.

Then I remembered what happened earlier. Oh… so that’s what happened…

“Thanks” I said grabbing the paper. “But you see, since it’s with you, I just made an impromptu speech in front of eighty students.”

“Oh, I’m sorry…” he placed his hands on his pockets.

“Ah, but nothing to worry. I’m Sylvia. I did very well in fact. So don’t underestimate me, mister” and I laughed as I embarrass him again.

“But I didn’t!--”

“Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go to class. Thanks for this” and I waved him off with the papers.

I wonder why he still chooses me to be his lab partner after seeing my attitude. I’m not born to please others, anyway. He just needs to get used to it because he needs me.

As we were making star prototypes in Astronomy the next day, I found myself avoiding him. I can’t even make eye contact and I just tried to focus on what I was doing.

After combining poisonous gasses on a large glass container, we made a star. We were the only ones who got it right and I didn’t expect giving him a high-five will be of comfort. He seemed warm and sweet. It wasn’t hard working with him. I found it enjoyable in fact.

When experiments weren’t done, we just find ourselves looking at each other at the same time and when he smiles, I would feel conscious and I try not to look again. Everything was perfectly normal when suddenly as we were having another activity; Dissecting planet Orion’s plant life, he asked me if I were his friend.

Again, little did I know that moving towards lab partner to friends will start our new connection.

“Well, um… well of course I am!” I stammered. It’s better thinking that we were friends than anything more. The thought of something more confuses me or rather scares me.

I gave him a smile looking at him momentarily as I was harvesting the cells of the Areuthrymae plant.

“Great!” he said with the goofy smile he has similar to a daycare child given an award.
