Chapter 3
When I woke up the music had been turned off. I looked at my iPod. I got a text from Angel. I gasped as I read the message.
"I am so glad I left. I've made it official that I'm not coming back. Don't get in the way of this, I know what I'm doing and I don't need you to be running off and telling the police about this. If you do, I'll make sure Randy keeps where we are an unknown fact for sure."
I couldn't stop reading the text. She is seriously dumb. Why would she do something this stupid? I am really angry right now. I never thought this would really happen. I got up and ran downstairs. "Mom, I just got a text from Angel! You gotta read this!" I handed her the iPod and she read it. "I am calling right now." My mom took the house phone and dialed Ms. Donna's number. "Hello, Donna? Yes, Crystal just got a text from your daughter. Yes, I know. I'll get her to forward it to you. Yes ma'am. Thank you." She hung up the phone.
"Forward the text to her mom. She wants to read it so she can call the police for information. They may need your iPod to track down her phone." "Yes ma'am." I forwarded the message to Ms. Donna and put my iPod away. Sooner later the house phone started ringing while I was upstairs. "Crystal, it's for you!" Chris shouted. I ran downstairs and picked up the phone.
"Hello?" I looked at the phone for a quick second to see who was calling. It was Nicholas. "Hey babe, what's up?" "Oh nothing just got a text from Angel." "Really, what did she say?" "Nothing really just telling me not to snitch, but I told my mom." I laughed a bit. "Oh, well anyways, I was calling to ask if I could come over tomorrow after school." I smiled. "I will ask my mom when Chris leaves to go to work." "Why? What's wrong with Chris?" "He is indescribable. If you come you will see what I mean." "Well text me after you ask okay?" "Alright, I will. "Bye, love you." I couldn't help but let out a big smile. "Bye, love you too." I hung up the phone and put it back on the charger. Before I reached the stairs Chris called me.
"What'd you say Chris?" "I said can you please do the laundry tonight? Most of it is your clothes anyways so you shouldn't have a problem with it." I nodded and headed upstairs before I said anything nasty. He could have just asked for me to do the laundry. The last part was totally unnecessary, but what do I know. I have the feeling that Chris doesn't like me because we are not blood. Which, I'm kind of glad I'm not related to him anyways. He just has an attitude with everybody though. He always sasses my mom, which just makes me want to punch him in the face, more than when he does it to me.
I heard Chris tell mom he was leaving. I waited until I saw him leave in his truck. Then I ran downstairs to go ask mom if Nicholas could come. "Hey Mom, I was wondering if Nicholas could come tomorrow after school?" "Sure as long as it's okay with his parents." "Thanks mom!" I went upstairs and turned on the T.V. and I couldn't believe what I saw. Last night's police interview with me was on the news. I was watching as they showed a video of Angel in the store with that guy in Georgia. I can't believe he took her to Georgia! I am going to kill her! I turned the T.V. off and just sat on my bed. I sat in complete silence, wondering if this whole situation was real.
I jumped as I heard a noise come from my iPod. It was a text from Nicholas. I had forgotten to text him what my mom had said. I guess the news distracted me more than I thought it did.
"Did you ask your mom yet?"
"Yeah she said you can come."
"Awesome! Thanks baby, you're the best."
"You're welcome, and no I'm not!"
"Whatever you say ;)"
I chuckled as I read our texts again. It was getting late so I decided to lie down. I couldn't fall asleep though. I found a necklace that Angel gave me for my birthday. It was a glow in the dark heart necklace. I didn't even want to think about Angel, but I couldn't stop worrying about her. We have been through so much and it's just hard to believe she would just do this, but unfortunately she did it.
Later that night there was a knock at my window which scared the living daylight out of me. I walked over to the window and looked down to see what was knocking. I don't believe this, it was Nicholas! I opened the window and he climbed in. "Nicholas! What are you doing here?" Why did he come here this late? "I'm sorry I couldn't stop thinking about you. I had to see you." I smiled and hugged him "Its fine." It grew silent in my room, which was really freaky. I turned the lamp on in my room. Nicholas and I both sat on the bed. We just looked into each other's eyes. Unexpectedly, he leaned over and pressed his lips gently against mine. My heart felt like it was about to jump out of my chest. It was 12:46 by the Nicholas left. I can't believe he really snuck through my window, and kissed me! I fell asleep a couple minutes afterwards.
Time has gone by so fast. It was already the last day of school. I brought a special shirt to school for everyone to sign. It was already the end of 8th grade. Next year, I'll be a fresh meat, I mean, freshman. I felt bad for Angel because nobody cared that she was gone, but I honestly don't blame them. They all said that it was her fault anyways. But I totally agree with them.
I walked into homeroom and sat next to Nicholas. He signed in huge letters on my shirt "NICHOLAS WAS HERE ;P". I had a whole bunch of signatures on my shirt five minutes into class. Mr. Smith gave everybody these goody bags filled with candy. Mr. Smith was a really good teacher when he wasn't having a fit about homework. This morning my mom told me that the police have a lead on finding Angel, which I'm glad. I really wanted to see her again just so I could slap her. She has everything she wants and needs here in North Carolina, why would she runaway from it all? That question bounced through my head off and on through the day.
In fourth period we were running around the school hugging all of our old teachers. Most girls like me, were crying their eyes out at the bus parking lot. We were hugging all of our friends and telling them all goodbye. We hugged all of the sixth and seventh graders because we weren't going to see them next year. Most of them were my friends so it was hard saying goodbye.
When I got home, I washed up and got ready for Nicholas to come. I suddenly got a call on my iPod. I thought it was Nicholas at first but when I looked at the caller ID, I had no clue. "Hello?" "Hello is this Crystal?" A deep voice asked. "Yes, this is her." "Good. I have a special message from Angel." "Go on." I heard some strange static and then I heard some muffling screams. It sounded like Angel. "Angel! What have you done to her?!" "I haven't done anything to her, yet." My eyes widened in shock. I quickly ran downstairs and handed my mom the phone, telling her to act like me. I told her to ask what he was going to do to her.
"What are you going to do to her?" I knew this would work because my mom sounds just like me over the phone. "You will never know what will happen to your precious Angel." My mother gasped in shock. She hung up the phone and called the police, telling them every detail. The police came a few minutes later, and was questioning us. I had no choice but to give them my iPod for a few minutes to track the call. Were we about to find Angel?
