"Are you going out?"
Seijurou asks from his place on the couch. Kuroko grabs his keys off of the coffee table and looks over at him.
"Yes. I'm going to meet Aomine and Kise for coffee."
Seijurou hums and yawns. "Have fun."
Kuroko nods to the familiar before glancing down at the Book of Shadows sitting on the coffee table. He only pauses for a second before turning away and leaving the apartment.
Sei told him he had Midorima bring the book over in order to give Kuroko the choice of becoming a witch like the rest of his family. Kuroko has purposefully stayed away from anything to do with witchcraft for his entire life. After being bullied every day about his mother's practice he wasn't very keen on following in her footsteps.
Kuroko just wants to live his life normally. Going to a normal school with normal classes and normal friends. He's content with the way his life has been, and even after finding out his pet cat is actually a familiar he just wants to continue to act normally.
"Kuroko-cchiiii!!" An excited voice calls to him as he walks up to the coffee shop he's meeting his two friends at. He smiles at the bubbly blond as he approaches the table.
"You're early."
"Kise wanted to get here on time. He pretty much dragged me here." The dark blue haired boy grumbles.
Kuroko smiles at his friends as he takes his seat. Kise and Aomine are dorm mates so Kise is always dragging Aomine places.
"Well this is an important time for Kuroko-cchi! We need to be here to support him!"
Kuroko furrows his brows at the blonde. "What are you talking about?"
"Aomine-cchi heard from Takao-cchi that Akashi-cchi is on his final life!" Kise says.
Kuroko stills. He stares across the table at the worried blond.
"... How do you know about Sei...?"
Kise looks surprised as he meets Kuroko's eyes, then he looks afraid. Kise sits back in his seat, all earlier bubbliness gone from his features.
"... He didn't tell you?" Kise looks from Kuroko to Aomine. "Oh god... He doesn't know... Oh my god."
"Of course he doesn't. Idiot." Aomine says to the now terrified blond. Kise brings his hands up to his face and covers his mouth.
"He's going to kill me... Oh god, he's going to kill me..." Kise repeats this until Aomine reaches over and smacks him to make him shut up. Kise whines loudly.
"He's not going to kill you. Even he has to know it's an honest mistake."
"What are you two talking about? How do you know about Sei?!" Kuroko looks between the two seriously. Aomine leans back in his chair with a long sigh.
"No use hiding it now I guess." He picks up his coffee and takes a drink before saying. "I'm a witch."
Kuroko stares at the dark blue haired boy in disbelief as Kise adds, "And I'm a familiar!"
Kuroko looks between the two in shock. He's quiet for a long time as he processes this new information. The 'Normal' world he created for himself has just shattered. Kise and Aomine share a worried look as they wait for him to say something.
"So... This entire time, you knew about my family... You knew about Sei..."
Kuroko thinks back to when he met Aomine in high school. He never once mentioned anything to do with magic. Kuroko hadn't even told him about his mother until years after the two of them became friends because he didn't want him to tease him about it. He hadn't given Kuroko any clue that he already knew about his family's history.
"Yeah. I knew."
Kuroko stares at his friend. He's stunned and confused and a bit hurt.
"Why didn't you say anything?"
"Akashi told us not to. He contacted me after he found out we were going to the same high school and asked me to keep quiet. He wanted to keep you away from the world of magic, and I agreed." Aomine explains.
"I didn't become Aomine-cchi's familiar until a while after he became representative, but I've known Akashi-cchi for years." Kise pipes up after Aomine finished. "After your mother died he took over her responsibilities within the coven. We all knew that you refused to take her place and we respected your choice... but... I just figured... maybe you changed your mind after finding out about Akashi-cchi... I didn't mean to... I'm sorry..."
Kise looks across the table at him sadly. Kuroko is quiet again. Kise is anxious as he waits for Kuroko to reply and starts talking again without thinking.
"I just figured after your break up and now with Akashi-cchi on his last life you would need your friends support even more. I don't know why I just assumed Akashi-cchi would tell you everything. He was so adamant about keeping you away from it. I wasn't thinking. I'm really sorry Kuroko-cchi."
Kuroko blinks up at the blond, something in his rambling catching his attention.
"Break up...?" Kuroko frowns.
Kise pauses, looking at Kuroko in surprise. He looks over at Aomine in confusion and Aomine frowns at Kuroko.
"Yeah, you broke up with Kagami not long ago..." Aomine tells him.
Kuroko's eyes widen in surprise. That's right, he was dating Kagami. They had been together for almost a year after meeting and becoming friends at their University's Frosh week.
"... I forgot..." Kuroko says quietly. He's surprised at himself. How could he forget something so important?
Kise and Aomine share another worried look as they watch their friend.
"Kuroko-cchi...? Are you okay...?"
"I need to go." Kuroko says, standing from his chair.
He quickly turns and hurries out of the coffee shop. Aomine calls after him but he doesn't listen. There's too much Kuroko needs to think about. He forgot about Kagami. His only friends have been hiding a huge secret from him since the day he met them. His normal life is shattering and he doesn't know what to do. He's been blind to everything. His life has never been normal.
