class starts, and just as an overly-sized man with large spectacles begins to introduce himself, a girl runs into the room.
"i'm not late if class hasn't started yet, right, mr. concannon?" she says out of breath, yet still with a smirk.
the teacher sighs. "okay, fine, you get it this time, alayah. but only because it's the first day of school, understand?"
she smiles and nods. "of course, mr concannon." she swishes her huge mess of curly, light brown hair. her dark skin shines in sunlight from the window. her walk has a bounce to it, and she walks, guess where? to the table i'm sitting it. riley two jumps up.
"ALAYAAAAHHHHH!" she screams.
"Riley!" mr. concannon says sternly.
"sorry, mr concannon," riley says, quieting down.
"girl, calm yourself! i'm fine, im here," alayah whispers.
"i'm so happy to see you," riley whispers.
"me too," alayah responds. she sets her purse down on the table and smiles at me. she gives a look to iko (who's on his phone) so she averts her gaze to riley one. riley one seemingly mouths, "her name's avery. she's new." alayah nods and smiles at me and waves.
phew i think, she seems normal
"Hi," i whisper, waving back at her.
"you kids can talk all you want at lunch, but right now you need to listen," mr concannon calls out to all the students, mostly us. both rileys sigh, alayah rolls her eyes, and iko shoves his phone into his pocket.
"so, welcome to highschool."
