Butterflies

Him

   As I entered the willow I saw him laying there. There was blood running from his lip. He was reaching for something in the air. You look up to find that the interior of the willow was covered in the translusent butterflies I had seen before.

"You've finally came. Ive been waiting so long for you to come find me Mai."

  'He knows my name? But how'

"How do you know my name? And who are you exactly?"

  There was a long pause before he said anything.

"My name is Jason. I know you because I was the one who sent for you. Do you remember ths butterfly that landed on your hand? He left a mark, my mark, on you. You see we have the mark, we are bonded. I sent him out to find you. I needed you to find me so that you could help me."

"Why do you need me? What was so special about me? And what's with the blood? What happened to you out here?"

"Mai, come closer to me. I choose you because you aren't afraid. I was left here not long ago. I had to fight to survive. Then I came across this willow tree. When I first took shelter here there was nothing but then soon butterflies appeared. When I first reached for one it disappeared, but after that it landed on my hand and marked me. He is my companion. He talked to me and told me about you."

"So you're telling me that a little translucent butterfly told you about me. And then marked me and bonded us. What even is this bond?"

  So much was going through my head. My heart was racing and I didn't know what to do.

"Our bond is special. It can't be broken easily. Only death can separate us."

"Wait, death? This sounds like it's straight out of a wedding ceremony."

"You can think of it that way, but it's more complex than that."

  He sounded crazy. He was dodging the question about the blood on his lip. Why was he left in this condition?

"Mai, the one thing we can't do is fall for each other."

  I was speechless. I just met Jason and we already were bonded and we can't fall for each other. I didn't want to be bonded to him. I wish he hadn't chosen me.

"This is crazy! It's all a dream. Soon I'll wake up in my bed, in my room, and all of this will be a distant dream."

"Mai!"

  He reaches for my hand.

"It's not a dream. I promise."

  I pulled my hand from him.

"Don't go grabbing my hand. We can't fall for each other, remember? Don't do anything stupid."

Gosh, I hated saying that. I looked from my hand to him. There was a smirk on his face. I pushed him away.

"Idiot! What did I say, don't do anything stupid. "

"I wasn't doing anything stupid. I was just smiling at you. You know your face looks like a cherry. "

I couldn't believe it. I was blushing! I was blushing because of a guy that a just met. A guy I barely knew.

"Would you just knock it off! So anyway you never told me about the blood."

"Oh, that. Well let's just say three weeks in the woods can cause some issues."

"No, really, what happened to you."

  He looked away from me. Was he embarrassed?

"I guess you can say I ran into a tree. "

"Hold up you ran into a tree! Oh my goodness, I can't believe it!"

  I couldn't help but laugh.

"It's not that funny, ok. It hurt quite a bit. Now stop laughing."

  He looked at me with an irritated look. I couldn't help but smile at him.

  Jason was amazing. Little did I know that I was slowly falling for him.
