Like always she was clueless about anything going on around her.

"No I'm not here to argue with you. I'm here to warn you."

I knew that she wouldn't listen to me because of everything leading up to this. But I couldn't blame her.

"Warn me about what?"

"Luke, don't hang around him too much."

"What is that supposed to mean. Luke seems like a really nice guy. "

She was blushing. I'd only seen her blush one other time and that was with me. Don't tell me that after one freak meeting she already likes him. And it's not like I can stop that.

"You like him don't you?"

"What are you talking about. We just met. "

"Exactly! Just... just don't do anything stupid. "

She gave me a look that said 'really you used that line'

"Just meet me behind the school after your last period. I have something for you. "

"Okay?"

I could tell she wasn't sure about what I'd just said but it didn't matter. I had to give it to her. She needed a special thing like I did. My butterflies, but for her a bird.

Only few were able to give these companions you could say to people. Those who were born with them and those who were given them. I knew it was time that I gave Mai hers. She was ready to take on this responsibility. This would help her be safe because I knew that I could no longer be there for her.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last period had finally ended and I was prepared for the worst. I wasn't expecting her to show up but when I saw her standing there by the front door of the school I was overjoyed. But I knew all too well that this feeling wouldn't last long. Soon after I spotted Mai, Luke walked out through the doors and wrapped his arm around her.

"You ready to go?"

"If you're ready, yes"

So she was just going to ditch me. I honestly shouldn't have been this surprised, we had only just started talking after a full month of fighting.

I walked to a nearby tree. In the tree there was a small, yet spacious, hole. There I had hid Mai's companion. I took the cage out of the tree and held it close. I had a feeling that Mai and I had grown farther apart than I thought.

There was really no point in trying to get her to come back. She wasn't the same girl I had fallen for all those years ago. She had grown so much in the past 8 years that she forgot everything that wasn't already taken from her, everything that I took from her. And now I was going to take something else from her.

So i'm going to leave this chapter here. I still really feel like no one is reading this and it's kinda putting me in a funk. Please if you are reading this post a comment or make a suggestion. It would mean the world to me
