Wake Up Call

- Well, just tell us then! - Yelled Deeks, desperate for an answer by the doctor.

- We noticed an increase of her brain activity. She's probably gonna wake up today. Miss Blye is a tough one. - Announced the doctor, with a wide smile on his face.

- Oh, thank God! - Said a relieved Deeks, putting his hands on his head. He felt like a huge weight had been taken off his shoulders in that moment, but he'd only be completely satisfied when Kensi was awake, safe and sound.

- That's great news, doc! Thank you so much. - Thanked a relieved Sam, too, as the doctor shaked his hand and left the room.

Sam hugged Deeks.

- See? I told you everything would be okay! Kensi's brave, Deeks. - Said Sam in a low tone, squeezing Deeks' shoulder.

- Yeah, she's the bravest. - Said Deeks, having flashbacks of all the times that Kensi fiercely took down a guy or just wasn't afraid of anyone or anything.

In that moment, Sam gets a phone call from OPS.

- What you got for me, Eric? - Asked an impatient Sam.

- We just got a lead on the guy who shot Kensi, we believe he's in the Santa Monica pier, possibly for a business meeting. Callen's on his way. - Informed Eric.

- Tell Callen I'm on my way too! - Said Sam, ending the call and rushing to the door.

- What's up? - Asked a worried Deeks.

- We just got a lead on the guy who shot Kensi. Gotta go! - Said Sam, leaving.

Deeks was happy that there was finally an actual lead on this guy. He needed to pay for what he did to Kensi, and Deeks knew he would, sooner or later. He sat in that weird chair by Kensi's side, held her hand and told her:

- Take your time, princess. I'll be here when you wake up, don't worry.

He kissed her forehead and leaned back in the chair, patiently waiting for the love of his life to wake up.

3 hours later, Deeks had fallen asleep but was still holding hands with Kensi, and that's when he felt her hand move softly and jumped off the chair. Kensi was slowly opening her eyes.

- Hey sugarbear, you're not getting rid of me that easily! - Said Deeks with the biggest grin on his face. He looked like a kid in a candy store.

- Sugarbear?! I think I went to hell instead of heaven. - Said Kensi in a weak voice, always with her sharp sense of humor.

- Oh no, you're definitely in heaven, because I'm here, right? - Asked Deeks, laughing.

- You are. - Said Kensi, now in a more serious tone.

- And I'm not leaving this hospital room for nothing in the world. - Said Deeks, gazing into her eyes.

- You know that thing that people say, that you can listen to the outside world while you're in a coma? - Asked Kensi, curious over Deeks' answer.

- Yeah, I've definitely heard some rumours about it. - Said Deeks, giving a lighter tone to the conversation.

- It's true. I've heard everything, Deeks. Every single word.  And I want you to know that I feel the same way. Always have, always will. - Said Kensi, letting out a soft smile.

- Yeah well, a wise girl once told me that sometimes you don't know how lucky you are to have something untill you realize you might lose it. And just the thought of losing you is unbearable, Kens. Just the thought of living in a world where you're not terrifies me. This was a wake up call. I don't wanna go a day without seeing that beautiful face of yours. And I don't mean, just at work. You know what I mean. - Sighed Deeks.

I do. - Said Kensi, smiling while a single tear rolled down her cheek.

Deeks squeezed her hand and leaned in for a kiss. And oh boy, that kiss was worth everything. Every stupid little fight over who'd pick the radio station, every night they spent without each other, every bump in the road, everything. And there's only one thing they regret about that moment: not doing it sooner.
