“What? Killed who?” I could tell Dad was trying to keep a calm face, but it wasn't working so well.
“Bryan. Bryan Jennings.” I reply, trying to say it without breaking down again. Dad’s face finally lost it’s calmness. And so did he.
“What!? Cody, tell me what exactly happened” I thought back on what happened. It’s not a place I wanted to go.
“We got into a fight. He kept saying all these things about Mom. I tried to stay calm, but I couldn’t do it. I kept punching him until I realized he wasn’t fighting back.” I cringed at the thought of it.
“Are you sure you killed him?” I looked up at him.
“Yes. He had a head wound and he had lost a lot of blood. I check his pulse too, there wasn’t one…” The phone rang, making me jump. It was Lexi, asking if she needed to get anything from the grocery store. Dad hung up the phone and looked at me.
“Lexi’s on her way home. I’m sure everyone else is to. You need to get those clothes off” I headed down stairs for the laundry room.
“You can’t put those in the washer. The blood will never come out. Plus, I don’t want any one else seeing those. Just hand them to me after you change” Dad said as he walked back into the kitchen. I headed for my room. I walked into my bathroom and stripped off my bloody clothes and slipped into the shower. I let the hot water run down my back.
Someone’s going to figure out it was me.
After washing up, I got out of the shower and changed into black sweats and a sleeveless t-shirt. Then someone opened my door. I threw my comforter on top of the bloody clothes.
“Don’t worry, it’s just me” Dad said as he removed the comforter and picked up my clothes.
“Dad, what are you going to do with those?” I asked.
“Don’t worry about it Code” He turned to leave my room, but then turned back around.
“And Cody. I know this is going to be hard, but try to act like nothing happened when everyone comes home. And don’t say anything to anyone else. That includes Olivia, Cassie, Trevor and Lexi. K?” I looked at him.
"I’ll try, but I don’t think I can do this Dad. What am I going to do? Live my life as if I never…” I was interrupted by the sound of the front door opening.
“We’ll talk about this later” Dad said as he left my room. I headed up for dinner, though I didn’t have much appetite. This was going to be interesting.
