As I walked back to the hotel, there was a guy leaning against a building. He stepped out in front of me. It was Adam, Bryan’s Brother. Adam was 5 years older than me.
This can’t be good.
“Cody, you need to come with me” He said.
“What?” He took a step closer to me, we were almost face to face. Then, he leaned forward and whispered in my ear.
“I know what you did” He said. I stepped back.
“What are you talking about?” I asked, acting as if I had know idea.
“Don’t be a dumbass Cody, I know you killed my brother.” I was taken back that he actually said it.
“What? Look I have no idea..” He grabbed a hold of my shirt and shoved me up against the wall.
“Damn it, listen, and listen closely. You are going to follow me without saying anything, then we’ll talk about what happened. Sound good?” I nodded my head.
“Good” He said with a grin. I followed Adam until we came to an abandoned building. He opened the door.
“After you” I wasn’t sure if I should go in or not.
“Go” He said demandingly. I slowly walked into the building.
Is this a trap?
I walked into a dimly lighted room. There wasn’t much in there, some old boxes and furniture. There was a group of people sitting in a circle in the center of the room. I didn’t recognize any of them. Most of the men looked in their earlier 20s, there was one that looked around my age.
“Is that him?” One of them asked. “Yup, this is him.”
What are they talking about?
I followed Adam into the back room.
“Why did you kill him?” He asked,
I looked over at him.
“I was an accident, I didn’t mean to.” I replied.
“An accident?! How the hell do you kill someone by accident?!” I wasn’t sure what to say. All I knew is that I didn’t have a good feeling about any of this. I just wanted to get out of here.
“I have a better question, why did your Dad turn himself in for you?” He asked.
“I don’t know, I honestly don‘t. I had no idea he was going to that.” Adam didn‘t say anything for awhile. He walked over to a fridge and pulled out a beer.
“Want one?” He asked. I shook my head. He laughed.
“Why did you bring me here?” I asked, almost in a whisper, as if I was afraid to know the reason. Adam laughed.
“Look kid, long story short. This, is a gang. I’m in the gang. Bryan was in the gang. Since you killed him, your taking his spot.” My heart sank. Nausea washed over me. I could barely get words to come out.
“What?” Adam continued to laugh.
“I’m not joining your ‘gang’” He stopped laughing and looked at me.
“Yes, you are.” He walked over to me. “No, I’m not!” A smile creped upon his face.
“I really didn’t want to have to do this Cody, but since your being so difficult, I’m going to have to”
Adam took a hold of my shirt and pushed me to the ground. I knew better not to fight back, I was with people in a gang! He kicked me until I rolled over onto my stomach. All I could see was one of the guys holding a knife.
