The next morning, I could feel the lack of sleep catching up with me. I sat at table, trying to force some food into my stomach. It was growling from not eating, but I still felt sick about everything.

“Oh my gosh! Are you serious?! Yeah, I’m turning on my T.V. right now!“ I heard Cassie say as she came running down the hallway. She came into the kitchen and turned on the T.V.

“Last night, the body of 18 year old Bryan Jennings was discovered in an alleyway near downtown. ” I looked up at Dad. He walked back to his room. I got up after and followed.

“It’s just a matter of time before they figure out it was me! I can’t go to school today!” My heart was racing inside of my chest.

“Cody, they won’t figure out it was you. And you have to go to school today. Cops will probably be there asking questions, it will look suspicious if you aren’t there.” Even though I hate to admit it, he was right.

“I can’t believe he’s dead” Lexi said as we pulled into the school parking lot. I can’t either.

I got out of the car. Today is going to be a long day.

“Hey Cody” I heard Olivia say behind me. I turned around. “Look I know you weren’t friends with Bryan anymore, but I just want to make sure your okay.”

I looked at her. No, I’m not okay! “Yeah, I’m fine. Thanks” She nodded and walked into school.

After mom died, Olivia sort of took over the “mom” role. At times, it’s nice to have some one care about you in that way. But other times, it gets annoying. I know she’s just trying to help though.

Everyone was talking about Bryans death. I tried my best not to listen to what anyone had to say. As I walked down the down the hall, I saw Bryan’s girlfriend, Abbie. She was crying. I looked away. I can’t do this. As I turned around, I ran into Emma.

“Hey” She said with the smile that I loved.

“Hey” I said smiling back. Just being around her made me feel better. We‘ve had a “thing“ for awhile, it hasn‘t turned into anything serious yet though.

“Sorry I didn’t call you back last night” I said.

“It’s fine. Hey, I have to get to class, but do you want to hang out tonight?” She asked.

‘Yeah, that’d be great” I said without even thinking.

“Great, I’ll call you later” I honestly didn’t think I could be with her right now, but maybe she’s just what I need.
