PART 1 : HONEST
"Dad!! I'm back!!" I shout as I enter the house.
"How are you munchkin ? I have good news dear. I found a good job with great payment," he says giddily.
"Really Dad ?! I knew you'd find a job," I drop my backpack and run over to him engulfing him in a hug.
"Congrats Dad, I knew you'd find one. I sense a but though," I say. He smiles sheepishly and opens his mouth to continue but Mum walks in.
"Hi dear, did your father tell you he's working at your dream university?" Mum says and my jaw instantly touches the ground.
Mum and Dad both work as teachers/professor. Mum works at another school as an English teacher. Dad is an economics and business professor .
"You don't need to work anymore. Our terrible days are over. Your mother talked to the manager and he agreed," he softly says and I squeeze him even more.
After surely stopping his oxygen intake for a few seconds, I let go and he immediately inhales all the air in the room.
What can I say? Mama and Papa bear created a strong girl (inserts muscle flexing emoji)
"Thank you. I don't know where I'd be without you." I say as Mum awws in the background like in the TV shows
"Well you'd be out on the street starving with no shelter or education or money," Dad states but Mum hits him on his shoulder.
That's my dad and I'm sure everyone is aware where I get my honesty from. My honesty has a hint of sass though. (Inserts winking emoji)
Jeez you're so cringy...
Enough with inner dialogue and emojis Adelaide!
"Oh dear, I forgot to tell you honey. The manager called and said he'll be out of the town for a week but once he's back you'll receive this month's wage," Mum says.
"Okay great." I grab my bag and ascend the stairs.
Mom stops me and tells me the words I expected to hear. "Oh and the Benjamin's are coming over for dinner. You know that they're back in town."
Of course we'd have dinner with them. I don't mind the family at all; in fact, they're quite pleasant. It's the son I'm worried about; I don't know what my parents love about him..
(Dinner Time)
I straighten my dress as I gaze at my reflection in the mirror.
"You can do this Adelaide. You will survive this dinner and won't punch the guy. You don't want to go to jail, do you? It's not worth ruining your future for the guy. I mean how bad will this be? Damn it, I just jinxed it. Let's hope when dinner starts it won't end with the guy losing his teeth."
"My marvelous crazy sister, are you done talking to yourself ?" Damien asks with amusement drawn all over his face.
I grab my phone and begin typing, " I'm sorry my marvelous wonderful brother. Damien, my dear twin, went into the changing room after practice...."
He places his hand on my phone and laughs nervously, "did you hear crazy? I said amazing."
I put my phone away, "thought so. Don't worry I won't ever say or post something embarrassing about you. Leave that to graduation and your wedding." Damien laughs and walks out of my room.
I walk out of my room too as I mutter to myself, " please God let this dinner pass peacefully without me going all Mike Tyson on the guy, amen."
As I step off the last stair, the doorbell rings. "Adelaide please get the door."
"Damien!! Get your.." Damien walks towards me and I point at the door.
Plastering on the perfect million dollar red carpet smile as my family stands next to me, I open the door. " Hello Adelaide! I missed you dear," Mrs. Benjamin hugs me and I hug her back inhaling her scent.
"I missed you too Anna, please come in," I step aside. Xavier smirks at me then states, "I need to have a quick chat with her. It'll take a few minutes and we'll come in." My parents nod happily as Damien frowns.
Xavier pulls me and we walk to the backyard. "So what is it that you..."
I'm interrupted by being pushed against the wall. I roll my eyes, "so what's going to happen next has two alternatives. You're either going to kill me then escape or you're going to kiss me, admit your love to me, and how you were obsessed with me since sophomore year and that I was the most beautiful girl in the school."
"Damn it Adelaide, how did you know? This was all written in my pink diary," He steps away, "can't I ever have a normal conversation with you? Your straightforwardness always gets in the way."
"Oh well Xavypoo, I'm vewy sowy," I cross my arms and his eyes widen. "Eyes here pretty boy, now what is it that you wanted Benjamin? I'm starving and you don't want to see me when I'm hangry."
"I can't believe I would be saying that, but I'm desperate for your help. Chemistry is destroying my gpa and I really want to get into an ivy"
Wow, I wasn't expecting that from Xavier. I look down and nod, "can you help me in math too? We aren't the best of friends."
I keep my head down avoiding his intense gaze. He lifts my chin and looks at me with his perfectly sculpted eyes that burn right through my soul.
Am I even making sense right now? Don't ruin the moment Adelaide..
"Don't be ashamed of your weakness. It makes you who you are; I'll admit it makes you cute," he winks then steps back. My face is flushed, my knees are shaking, and I might collapse any second.
Who knew a guy's words would do this to me? Especially Xavier's words...
Woah, those sounds like the words you'd fine a sappy romance novel Adelaide. What's gotten into you?
"Thanks Romeo for those words; which may I add were taken from a book," now it's my turn to wink.
"And she's back. Well we better go back before this dinner turns to my funeral due to your brother." He points at the window where non surprisingly my brother standing watching over us.
I wave then we proceed to make our way back.
"So when do you want to start?" I ask before we enter the house.
"Tomorrow." Oh Boy! Oh Joy!
